As a side note, I am referring to the magazine where I got the instructions from to knit the FINGERLESS MITTS, but you may find them in any knitting, or even crocheting magazine right now.
My CELEBRITY COLLECTION of Paintings
WHICH FLOWER IS YOUR FAVORITE? You would be amazed which flower men choose as their favorite!
Flowers have personality! I didn't know this till I began painting this collection, just because I had one odd size of canvas for a year in my storage. 24 x 24 inch- what do I do with it? I looked at my coffee table and a rose was just at the point of wilting. Hmmm, never painted a flower in oil. If it doesn't turn out, I can always paint over it, I thought.
But all the while through the process of "Latebloomer" (the pale pink rose), I was arguing with myself that I was not a flower painter, and that I didn't want to go in history as copying Georgia O'Keefe, whom I greatly admire.
My arguments didn't seem to help, because when I looked at the painting, I thought, I have never seen an artist who paints flowers in an unusual form, in this style. One of the petals that had curled under, almost looked like an ear. To my amazement, this painting was done in 2 days.
I had no awareness that from my neighbors, strangers, even on the job site of my hubby, and a lunch store flowers would come(all during that time, without any prompting from me), and that I would feel compelled to paint the flower. This stint would last till I had painted about 15 flowers.
The last one of this period (the branch with orchids, given to me by the lunch store on Mothers Day) I called Daybreak, for I felt painting them had launched me into a New Day.

By the way, by the third flower I threw my questions and arguments away and started enjoying painting these flowers immensely!

The stargazer has amazing colors.
Cedar, some friends gave me a mixed bouguet with 3 fiery sunflowers (not the huge yellow ones) like these in it - gorgeous!
Thank you - I have wondered after your comment about evoking emotion, if viewing the flowers in this way, may change that person's opinion about their favorite.
Honestly, there aren't many flowers that I do NOT like! I think they are a huge mood lifter...if that makes any sense?
O yes it makes perfect sense to me, because I think that we are innately wired to love beauty. But this is beauty without make-up or blitzy dresses, or fanfare - they are the "real" celebrities (I live an hour from Hollywood)!

The blur iris is my favourite but I may not be representative of men in general! I have a whole collection of Irises in the garden and it's the only flower I can recall painting.

Scriptor Senex, the bluish colors (French ultramarine) of this iris are actually my favorite colors to paint with (other things than flowers)-and they often think it's a man who painted :).
Are the irises in your garden all purple, or do you also have yellow ones?

I love your slide show - never knowing which flower will show up next! And seeing so many flowers is wonderful at this time of year! The sunflower is my favourite painted flower. I have a collection of sunflower prints and fabrics around my place and I have them in pots on my balcony in the summer. But the iris is my favourite flower and your rendering of it is beautiful.
