REMEDY FOR THE COLD

This post should have appeared above the slideshow of my Celebrity Collection of Paintings, but it ended up here! This is my remedy for an artist in the winter or anyone who has cold hands: fingerless mitts, so you still can paint details with your fine brushes, and drink a cup of hot cocoa during a painting break. I have already worn them several times, so it's not just a show piece. Also, wear them on my exercise walk through the neighborhood.
The mitts are knitted with a pattern of Interweave Knits Spring 2006. My first mitts ever! The thumb gusset was much easier than I expected. Made a few adjustments for my own comfort. Since I now have many 7/8 sleeves, I made the mitts longer to cover my wrists. I love how they look with the self-striping/shading yarn.

Making my own accessories was a journey that started several years ago with making sweaters that fit with my own style of clothes, and in the colors I wanted. I was frustrated spending too much time, going from store to store and not finding the right color, style, what have you. At a certain point I had a "Eureka" moment. Why don't you make it yourself? What a concept!
As a side note, in Holland I had learned knitting and crocheting in 2nd-5th grade of elementary school. That was part of the curriculum. I finally got back to it, when 2 of my 3 kids were on their own.

This is not the end of the story. The end was in my blog of Dec. - 2 little Christmas traditions. Can you tell, I'm not a writer? They mostly begin where the story starts! So I need some time figuring out how to tell my story backwards. I am still patting myself on the back though, because English is my second language. Maybe I would have paid more attention in class if I knew beforehand that later in life I would end up at a blog like this!

Good idea to wear mittens! I often go on a walk taking photos, which is very cold at the moment. My hands are almost frozen after holding the camera too long.

frozen hands - I know the feeling too well.
I came back to Holland in the winter for the first time after about 2 decades (always had been back in the summer), and it was i felt even too cold to breathe outside. Keep warm! jeannette

Thankyou for adding me. My fingers have become very painful from a mixture of english winter and too much sudden blog typing! I have always wanted cut-off gloves, but I can't knit so I might commission my grandmother to do it :)
Hot cups of tea must keep us going..

When it comes to painting, the wimp in me prevails and I insist on working in the comfort of my studio. The gloves are delightfully functional as well as visually pleasing.

The flowers are great!

Thank you - I have no distractions wherever in the house I paint - I can tell, because I forget about the time and I don't know how many times I let the potatoes burn LOL. The flowers were all painted inside.
Hope the electricity and heat went back on? Saw the pics on your wife's blog - horrible the damage the storm caused.
