IRIS FLOWERS

This is another part of my visit to the gardens of Huntington Library. Strange how blogging makes one notice "little details" that would have been overlooked before, like this corner of irises. These are a few of the bearded irises, and photos are taken by hubby, who is taking a class in digital photography.
(Disclaimer: somehow my tab key does not seem to work, so I couldn't get the descriptions underneath the photos. If any of you have an idea how to tweak this, I would like to hear it, LOL)

Spotless white
blazing beauty
shrinking back from
tainting unadulterated light
lined with
hair fine edges
illuminating the dark
corners of my mind.

Spattering
abundant color mixes
of the creator's brush
merrily leaving
His signature marks
on frivolous crinkled edges.

One night's attempt
to wash away the stains of
purple tears
but, oh how pale
my divided heart
looks when soft
moonlight arises.

Oh how I wish I had more words and language to describe these particular blooms. Some in their soft solid color, others in their frivolousness or extravaganza. Man made red carpet and fanfare pales in comparison by these stunning natural celebrities.

Oil, 24 x 24, St.Germain

My Celebrity
Tall and undaunted
as an unsheathed sword
you stand, my iris
even if lightning strikes
the fragile and the weak
find refuge
under your purple wings.

All poems/descriptions by St. Germain.

This iris painting you may also see in my slide show of all my flower paintings Oil, 24 x 24 or 24 x 30 in my January 09 post. Prints are in any size available on smooth photo paper or canvas print.

Joan,
thank you so much. The pics were taken by hubby - I realized that now - and will add it in my post, LOL

Lynette, Thank you! I like the blending of art forms, so "the piece" can be experienced in different ways.

Sujata,
The photos, except for the one of the painting, are taken by my hubby, so I'll pass on your comment to him! Thanks for visiting my blog!

Wonderful photos; wonderful words! The painting is stunning - I love the colours.

Rosie, thank you for your kind words. French ultramarine (the brighter blue) is one of the markers (or signature style) of my paintings, meaning: I use it a lot in my oil paintings.

Iris's are my favourite flower, so beautiful!

I love the middle one, haven't seen one like that before!

Jeannette StG said...

Michelle,
I'm lad you like them! I like the bright purple ones the most, but these are also beautiful in their own way.

Beautiful flowers all,

Wonderful post, super photos and lovely words. I've also been admiring your paintings Jeannette. They are beautiful. I hope someone can help you with your tab problem. I've never come across that before and don't know enough to offer any helpful suggestions. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I have enjoyed catching up here.

Merisi,
Your blue iris is stunning! Especially the striped heart is intriquing. Thank you for all your kind comments.

I appreciate your explanation about keeping up with 300 readers! You don't have to do a post every day:) If I have 3 posts per week I'm satisfied.

Denise,
After all the psychologist and the carpenter(hubby) do make a team (because you are from Europe, you especially appreciate the divide there LOL).
Thank you for all your kind comments!

Carol,
Thanks for the visit, especially because I know from your blog you are trying to survive all the shopping!!! I know what it is -one of my daughters sound like yours: 100 miles an hour, LOL.

Gaston Studio,
Thank you, Jane. The sun was also in our favor, bringing out al the little crinkles and folds of these flowers. In painting, this one is actually one of my most favorite of the whole Celebrity Collection.

I love your iris photos...I ve always wanted to paint an iris but it is too daunting a task~! The only flowers I've painted before are water lilies and proteas. Thanks for stopping by my blog :O)

Sreddy

PS: I am a Taiwanese in South Africa. I don't live in the USA :O)

Jeannette StG said...

Sreddy,
Wow, how did you end up in South Africa? If you have it somewhere on your blog, just refer me to your post:)

If you can paint a protea, you can also paint an iris. Try it:) Taking pics beforehand helps, so that when the flower is wilted you still have the pic to help you with the forms.

You may have a few misses, before it turns out well, but I did one painting over 5 times (24 x 30 inches), before it looked like anything!
But it's not written all over the good painting that this is the 6th or 10th time you painted this (just don't tell anyone, but your best friend, LOL).

Your painting is very lovely and your husband takes very nice photographs. Lilies are such flashy flowers. They should dance at the Moulin Rouge.

Hi,Jeanette

Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog. Your Iris photos are beautiful and I can hardly wait for mine to bloom.

I found your blog through Artist Blogs, Art Blogs (if I remember correctly) Stop back to check on mine in a couple weeks after I get a few posts under my belt :o)

Have a glorious spring!

Irene,
Iam glad you have your sense of humor back, dear friend:)
Only...it these irises were dancing at the Moulin Rouge, I wouldn't be there to take pics of them, LOL I love dancing, but that place is a little gaudy for me (hope I don't offend you). How about the Ritz?

Jeannette StG said...

An'Angelia,
Thank you for getting back to me about how you found me, and solving my puzzle. After my blog visit to you, I went there for the first time, and I quess that's how the other two recent artists additions found me.
You're named after the angels - now, how about painting angels? I do - log onto www(dot)stgermainart(dot(com, and click on the left top button. enjoy!
