THREE EARTHQUAKE JOLTS TODAY

Not an uneventful day!! - in the afternoon 2 earthquake jolts. Just now at 9 pm (Thursday)
another jolt. Don't mean to scare you or be dramatic, but just in case you don't hear from me for a while, you know why.
Please don't worry about me, I live with a knight in shining armor who will rescue me, if need be. And I am prepared with backpack with most needed things and water bottles. Your outpour for my concern is very comforting - thank you! (I am adding on to this, as the hours pass). The only sign of underground shaking was that my computer went off after midnight(but lights are still working).

Oh Jeannette, be safe! Let us hear from you soon.
My son and step-daughters also live in LA. I go now to read the online news.

Oh gosh Jeannette. Yes, it is getting into summer again and I suppose these tremmors are to be expectd. I hope you are going to be okay though. I am sure you will. :)

Dina,
It's 11:50 PM and nothing has happened yet. Heard on the news that it was only 3.8 or 4.0. Guess I felt it so strong because it came from the Whittier fault. That city starts one street over to where I live, LOL. But I have a backpack packed, just in case.

Joan,
On the news no injuries reported. My hubby came home an hour early from Orange County, because the tiles started falling of the ceiling with the last jolt of 9 pm. and the school had to check the gas lines, etc. so all students had to get off campus.

We haven't had a distinct jolt in this area for years (also read my comment to Dina). So after 2 jolts, I started cleaning up some things to avoid breakage.

Hope the earth has resettled Jeanette - how scary it must be to live so near to a fault.

How unsettling for you - take care and keep safe.

Tiles falling off the ceiling?! Epicenter right next to you? Oi!

I guess you Californians have to love CA despite her faults.

I also have an earthquake kit/backpack ready. We are near the Great Rift Valley and the Big One is due. I tremble just thinking about what could happen.
May your shaking be over now.

Weaver of Grass,
I am not that quickly afraid - a hurricane is just as scary to me, or a tsunami- worse!!
I'm counting on it that God will protect me, till it's my time to go.

Jeannette StG said...

Rosie,
It is unsettling, but it's bearable/doable. Thank you for your concern!

Dina,
I rather deal with earthquakes than with rockets and missiles flying around you in the Middle East! And the continuous, delicate political situation of Israel.
I quess we learn to live with the dangers near us, and get "used to it."
Try not to worry about your son and family:)

Not haveing been through something like this, I think I would be frightened to death. LOL!! Yes, I guess it is best to pack some things are which are special for just in case. I guess that is the price to pay for living there. I would choose Arizona myself. :)

So if you back pack is ready, head on over here. :)

I'm with you on God's protection! I live 70 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and we have to deal with
" Katrina's "!

I've only experienced an earthquake once, when I lived in Egypt, and was sure at first we were being attacked! A horrible experience, but you seem prepared what with the Knight in Shining Armor and all!

Be well.

I suppose houses in L.A. are built properly, so one should take precautions within the house.

Things that are breakable or heavy should be dealt with accordingly as they might hurt people more than the earth's shivering. Safety is more important than exhibiting the beauty of certain items.

Hi Jeannette,
Hope You still are here with us!
Sometimes electricity etcetera will not work for a while.

Greetings from,

Joan,
Arizona, that's the desert! LOL
Hope you're joking! hope I don't have to live there (it's a lot cheaper though - living expenses and houses). I've been through the Whittier earthquake in '87, and the Northridge earthquake, and there was another one in-between, and the rest were some jolts like yesterday, but it was never 3 jolts in one day!

Jeannette StG said...

Joan, thanks for the invite! But, maybe another time LOL

Carol,
Those huricanes are there every year! Last year we were in Florida in the summer, and "it" was on my mind every day. Here I never think about the earthquakes. Thank you, I do feel God's protection.

Jeannette StG said...

Jane,
Yes, the first experience is the worst, because you're not used to the ground moving and everything shaking around you:)
For me, worst case scenario would be a massive one during the day, because hubby works an hour away, but I didn't want everyone to worry, because there's only so much you can prepare, and then you just have to go on with living!

Jeannette StG said...

Duta,
Only the newer houses are built properly with earthquakes in mind though. LOL - but it helps that our house is built from wood instead of stone/brick. Wood is more flexible.
I know, safety first, but Duta, I don't want to live with all my treasures tucked away - to me that's not living. I guess I'm used to risk:)Thanks for your concern though.

Anna-Lys,
Yes, I'm still breathing LOL
Yes, we are used to it by now to check gas, elektricity, and cracks in the wall. My computer went off yesterday after midnight, but lights are still working.
Thank you for your concern, Anna-Lys - how did you find my blog?

SO you are shaken, but not Stirred?
Having been through Carla, when I lived in Houston, I am not much afraid of the things like that we get up here, but a bad snow storm? UGH!
I don't think I would like earthquakes much either.
Stay safe!

Jeannette StG said...

Joey,
True - that's funny, I would be stirred if the shaking was of a higher magnitude (it was 3.8 or 4.0), and waking up in the middle of one is much more frightening, than you are on your feet, being able to think (more or less, LOL).

With disasters, if I have a virus no one knwos what to do with, I'm coming to you!
I sure hope your eye sight becomes better. I am not understanding why you're having problems (nothing was taken from your occipital lobe, right?) - just take it easy - you have saved enough lives, now you need to preserve yours:)
Enjoy your weekend!

You had to go there didn't you!
Yahoo of course is reporting in SWINE FLU in Mexico City (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090425/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/med_swine_flu), but it doesn't end there.
The CDC monthly reported 2 children with the same flu virus. It is of course mutated from the 1976 strain, so new vaccinations must be made. It is killing people.
You might be surprised, but I have never worried about a terrorist bio-weapon attack, I have always worried about a flu pandemic.
The alarms are raised, is this it, maybe not, but to be on the guard is an excellent choice.
ANd just so you know, I can never help enough pweople, even with my dying breath.

Yes, I remember those earthquakes. They were always a good wake up call. Still, we continued to live there. Very daring of us, really. Hope everything is okay there.

Dick said...

I see you are still there, take care

Jeannette StG said...

Joey,
waauw, mutated from 30 years ago?
- incredible. You have such vast knowledge in your field, but are so down to earth - I really admire that!
Yes, I've seen the news on yahoo (thanks by the way, though!!)...so much traffic is going on between California and Mexico, and more than 70% of inhabitants of CA are of Mexican descent, that the news about the swine flue does concern me. But I am not one to panic quickly, but I do keep this thing on my prayer list :)

You are right, we never can help enough people, but I also hope that you do take care of yourself, and are not pushing yourself too hard!have a good weekend:)

Jeannette StG said...

Irene,
Yes, we are fine. Glad to report that there is no damage in my house LOL. I wrtoe about it only because it caught me by surprize, it was so long ago that we even had minor earthquakes. You know, you've lived here, it's not continually on your mind (but I've had friends move out of state because they couldn't take it). Hope you have a good Sunday!

Jeannette StG said...

Dick,
Yes, I'm still here without any damage, so everything is cool! Thanks for asking:) Have a good Sunday, Dick!

Anna-Lys,
Aach, I have forgotten what I asked you, and couldn't find it on your blog, but what I did find was your link of the Talent woman - wow, she is a breath of fresh air in every way! thanks for putting up that link.
So true, the real pandemic is poverty, and I wish everyone would be in panic over that!!
