SCRIBBLE DOODLE WINDOW - AN EVENTFUL WEEK

Oil, 6 1/4 x 9, Mixed Media, St. Germain
In the Scribble/Doodle Window of this week is "What a Girl needs..." This is one of my India ink drawings combined with watercolor, done during my high school time. I found this little painting in one of my old photo books, done on paper they use in pantie hose packages. It's because, as a teen I payed all my art expenses from my allowance. My parents did provide note blocs of blank recycled paper, so I wouldn't doodle, scribble or sketch on book covers, magazines, or walls :).

Remember that I was eating ice cream in the beginning of this week because it was 90+ degree weather? I was blogging in shorts and tank top, because we do not have an air conditioner (yet!). But before that, I watered my flowers, who were seriously wilting.

In middle of the week, when I opened my door in the morning, I felt a slight breeze.
So I gladly changed from shorts to capri's, from sleeveless to short sleeve, from beach sandals to ballet slipper shoes.

The next day, white clouds came rolling in my window frame. It looked like an uneventful day. I was merrily painting on a pastel of the Dikkop bird of Joan's blog (South African Photographs). Suddenly my couch moved.
Uh-oh, this is a jolt of...an EARTHQUAKE.
While I was mentally preparing to make a dash to the front door, a second later a lesser jolt came.
Oh- no! Where is my one minute dash plan?...I cant think...
Where are my shoes??
I am waiting for a 3rd long rolling jolt, but it didn't come.
I promised myself to be more prepared from now on.
That evening there was another jolt!! I now packed stuff that one needs right away. I left a message on my blog in case the small tremors were not the end. My computer went off after midnight, the only sign of underground "activity" as they call it. My cup of gratefulness ran over that several bloggie friends wished me well.

The day after that appears with an overcast sky. I change from short sleeve to a long sleeve cotton top and drape this shawl around me. Obviously not for show, because no one is around, but for just enough cover to making me feel comfortable.

Later in the day, I put my Koigu Mills socks on. This winter I knitted the first socks ever. The heel and the toe were much easier than I expected. Those parts are knitted with cotton baby yarn, and the multi-colored part is knitted with elastic acrylic yarn. The pattern comes from Rosieblog, here on blogspot.

And now in the weekend, it is at least 30 degrees colder!! I have changed again from cotton to sweater, from capri to jogging pants, and from ballet slippers to jogging shoes...

and in the evening I expect to wear these socks, and my neck shrink-wrapped with a scarf. Our dear old house is not that well insulated:)
When knitting just became a craze, my younger, very trendy daughter, asked me if I could knit her a scarf. I once taught her to knit, but I guess it didn't take! After her scarf, to be fair I then knitted my older daughter one too. I became aware that the only one who did not have a scarf is me!

By now, I had enough of following pattern instructions, so I made this one up as I was going along. I call it my Evolving Scarf.
This is not exactly a winter scarf, because the two yarns I used, are a blue acrylic/cotton blend and the blue-white yarn is a very loose silk like weave.

Of course, a girl needs MORE, but these are some of the basic and daily items that I love to wear.

Aggie,
Thank you! This and two others I kept through all the moves from country to country, LOL.
Of all the disasters, earthquakes are for me the least scary, maybe because i've been through several. A tsuname would be very scary to me. Enjoy your Sunday!

Silver,
Am glad you're back!! I checked out your blog before I'm coming back to your comment. What an awesome trip you had - I see green with envy, LOL
Yes, I am glad the earthquake jolts were too weak to really do vast damage!

How terrible, Jeannette to have three earthquakes in a day! Do you have earthquakes in your surroundings as a rule?
Thanks for showing the Kinkade picture. When I saw it I thought that he was a painter of the 19th century. The painting is a mixture of romanticism and impressionism, but actually it's neither of them. The picture makes a nice x-mas card but never reaches the level of the paintings of Degas. He is an illustrator not an artist. I saw that he is of the 20th century, as such I would have expected a completely different kind of work. No I shall never buy anything of his paintings.I understand why you don't like him either.

Reader Wil,
There are several fault lines running in this area, so there are bound to be earthquakes "sometime." In the 20 years I've lived here, we had 3 quakes of 5. and over on the Richter scale, and about 7 times tremors that do not much damage, like last week. As soon as I have time I'll write you on your email.

Joey,
Nothing is more sad than when people "exist" instead of live, because of fear. I have only one life, and I intend to make the best of it. (You seem to be a person who would have a similar approach to life:).

Rossel,
Is this your real name? And if so, what does it mean? My daughter has been to the Philippines for a week, and told that there was a lot of poverty.
When you like to sketch, and like art, please share it with your readers:) I looked at your blogs, but I couldn't find any sketches or art. Did I overlook it?
thanks for the "follow!"
