FIVE ROSES from our Extreme Yard Makeover

Remember that a few blog posts ago I promised
to show you the roses now blooming
in between the rocks in our made-over front yard?

Well here they are.
Most of them captured by hubby. These are all blooms of this year.

In the beginning Mellow Yellow had us worried.
We thought she would not make it,
but came back twice as strong this year.

Glad that we took Peachy Keen home with us,
for we saw her beautiful color not
often in our neighborhood.

Creamy Whites giving and giving
her blooms generously throughout the year.

Then I met her. With fragile lavender cast
in the morning topped with pink edge.
By overcast sky turning to her silver side.

When shadows lengthen in late afternoon sunlight,
Lavender changes her appearance for her evening dress.

On the far left and right these red hot warriors
are stationed, this one with yellow sash.

18 x 36, Oil. St.Germain

What is there left for a painter, surrounded
by so much beauty?
Well that's easy,
immortalize these beauties
for next generations with sweeping brush.

A quote from Stepen Gill and Duncan Wu of
William's Wordsworth "Selected Poetry"
(published by Oxford World Classics)
I just saw on Solitary Walker's blog,
which left me gasping for it's poetic and lazer sharp acuity.
He paints with Rembrandt's words
where I can only paint stick figures:)

the universe is not mechanical and dead,
but live and vitally connected to the human mind;
awakened consciousness leads to
an awakened moral sense and must lead to
the communication of the divine.
In the profoundest sense, love of nature
leads to love of Man and awareness of God.

I love all your roses, but the first one is my favourite!
Thanks for sharing, they smell delicious!LOL
You asked if I stayed with the group during my bicycle ride. There were only two of us, so no problem.

WOW - beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! The softness of their petals...oh!

Wonderful - every bit!

All the roses are gorgeous but my favorite is the one with the pink ruffled edges and slightly lavender sheen... magnifique!

Reader Wil,
the yellow tea rose reminds me of the sunshine!
Oh, I had visions of a large group like 15 or so! At least cycling with at least one other person is so much more fun! Thanks for the visit here!

Heather,
Ah I found another admirer of roses! Even when they are dried (which I do), they are beautiful in how the petals are positioned, and I savor their fragrance as loong as possible.

Jane,
That's my favorite, because she (of course it's a she!)evokes fairy tale mysteries.
Had to chuckle when your exclamation went over in French - some words can only be said in a certain language! Thanks for visiting!

Beautiful roses! Your painting is also gorgeous. I do envy your ability to create what you see on canvas.

Jeannette...the roses are gorgeous!
The Lavender reminds me of my tree rose that is pale Lavender. It has 5 new blooms just starting to open!
The painting captures them well!!

I love roses, what I have are the wild ones; small whites which give off a fragrance of heaven, but only for about a week. Unscented pink ones which are small and cluster together.
Love all of yours, but I think I might come by and snatch one of those lavender ones!

The blooms are beautiful.

Gorgeous roses. I planted roses for the first time! They are the easy knockout variety. I haven't tried painting them yet. Maybe I should!

Thank you, Ruth, I am spoiled rotten with so much beauty around me. I think it has a real influence on the way I paint. I love the pink hat in your profile pic:)

Carol,
Ooh, a tree rose with lavender blooms? (it happens to be my favorite color) Hope you share it with us sometime!
Thanks Carol, this painting was not an easy one, but it was worth it!!

Joey,
I consider myself rich with these roses, and they are my only flowers blooming throughout the year (in front as well as back yard).
Well, since I have two with the lavender ones, I would even give you some, if you didn't live so far away!

Jeannette StG said...

Lillie,
Thank you! Haven't forgotten that I still need to respond to you about your comment in my previous post - just need to find the right wording LOL

Neetzy,
Sooner or later you probably will paint them. Because of one rose (at that time I had only two rose bushes) I sent on a stint of painting 15 flowers (24 x 24 and 24 x 30!) - so just be forewarned, they are very tempting! (they're in my slide show at this blog of Jan.09)

Very true words.

Love the Lavender rose. I have never grown roses before and so I ventured out and bought a yellow rose this year. I hope she does well.

They are all so beautiful it is hard to decide which I prefer but something about the 5th one seems to catch my eye more.

I love the painting Jeannette. Those suttle colors blending in are wonderful.

Jeannette StG said...

Jen,
Thank you Jen, and be encouraged!
I don't have a green thumb, know nothing about pruning, but after a year they're still alive and blooming LOL
All that to say, is that you'll probably do well with your yellow rose! oh yeah, and...talk to them! (just kidding)

Jeannette StG said...

Joan,
maybe it's the light that catches your eye? (don't know the setting hubby put this on) - do you realize that it's the same rose as the pic above (the lavender rose)?
Thank you Joan, you're always so encouraging, even though you don't understand Greek:)

I'll write you a note on email about the housing situation.

Wow, gorgeous photos of roses -really beautiful.

I saw the comment about them being the same Jeannette but I thought maybe you had made a mistake as they look totally differnt. I think it is the light and shadow on it which makes it more eye-catching to me.

Make syre you are really awake before tackling my repy to your e-mail. It is a long one. :)

Gorgeous roses, love your photos of all your different varieties. Our yellow ones are always the first to bloom, followed by the paler pink ones and later the darker pink ones - I don't know what variety they are as we inherited them:)

Your hubby did a great photographic job here and your caption for each of the pictures is more than adequate.

Thanks for sharing such Beauty with us.

Dear lovely Jeannette,
This is just to say hello and thankyou, for all these months of looking out for me, and keeping faith with me. I think of you a lot, but have no real strength to keep up with the blog world. A kiss for each of your roses, and a a strong big hug for you xxxshai

Wolinski,
Thank you for the comment and for visiting this blog! How did you get a hold of it? Can't remember seeing your profile pic before:)

Jeannette StG said...

Joan,
appearances sometimes mask the real thing, LOL - but they are the same rose, only done in a different setting and time of day!
Read your email - I'll wait till i have some more time to answer!

Jeannette StG said...

Rosie,
Oh you are so perceptive! You caught a major word in my thinking vocabulary: variety. I love the variety in plants, painting mediums, clothes, shoes (2 last ones not so good! because my closets are overflowing).
I think my white ones came out first, and then the yellow ones...

Jeannette StG said...

Duta,
Thank you for the compliments! It's the biggest surprise for both of us that hubby is good at photography. Up till last year, he never took pics!!!

Jeannette StG said...

Patience,
Yes, aren't they gorgeous! My first requirement in buying a flower bush is if the flowers are fragrant! Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for your visit. It's so nice that you know what the Netherlands look like and that you recognize many things.

Jeannette StG said...

Shaista,
If I could keep you healthy and home with my words, I would! I really mean that. Don't even be worried about "keeping up" - just do your art, and I am more than satisfied, dear Shaista!!

Your roses are exquisite. Roses remain my favourite flower, even if that sounds cliched. Your painting is lovely too. Here in South Africa we plant our new roses at the end of winter when the soil is cool not in summer.

Jeannette StG said...

Eleanor,
Where I come from (Holland), roses are not cliche, but tulips! So, I don't consider roses as cliche LOL
It makes sense to plant them in the cool season. For me that is between Dec. and Feb. - that's also when they get pruned. thanks for the visit!

Lynette said...

What exquisite roses and I can smell their perfume, just lovely!

Lynette,
Thank you! Yes, it's a lovely fragrance and a treat for the eyes.
