TO BE A KID AGAIN

Sunday was the perfect day to be in Old Town, San Diego, and be a kid again! I entirely blame our lunch with home made sandwiches and coffee at Starbucks for that. Something in the coffee must have broken the usual body alarms.

On a war path when she shops, after she bought her decaf coffee grind.

First, off to the candy store where they made hand made taffy. I peruse the choices. Do you have nougat? No? What am I going to buy then?

Ooh, they have fudge! I quickly walk over to the second isle to the end. I tap on the glass with my index finger (isn't it what kids always do?). No, no, not that kind, but the chocolate orange.
The bells did not start ringing after the coffee and the lunch, and then the chocolate. It did not sink the amount of calories and caffeine I had taken in.

Pretty soon we saw a corner where they had reopened an ice cream store. To commemorate that fact I had a big waffle cone with enough room for 2 1/2 scoop of dark chocolate ice cream (but paid for one scoop!. You think I had enough sugar and caffeine now?

This old scale is shiny, but it didn't have a good day. No one wanted to stand on him today.
The following store had colorful big garden pots, statues and chimes on it's large outside patio.
Somehow I was so focused on the chimes, that we never made it inside this store. We tried to sound at least 6 chimes, just like all the other little kids.
It sounded like an open air bell concert!

While hubby was reading Slum Dog Millionaire, I went out of the book store to visit another few of my favorite stores. My most important purchase today was at Crazy Shirt.

I had been eying the chocolate shirts for 3 years now, and never had the guts to go through with it. But as I said, the alarms did not work today.
For you outside of the USA, these shirts are honest to goodness dyed in chocolate. Not paint, but chocolate.

I saw this shirt, but I seemed to be in the kid's section. I held it up and asked with a cracked voice, "This is a kid's shirt, right?" The sales girl responded cheerily, "Oh, but we have 'em for adults too."
See all Chocolates
Hear all Chocolates
Eat all Chocolates
On the sleeve: the chocolate dyed logo
On the back: the little satisfied monkey

What can I say? The kid in me was yelling and screaming, "Take me home TODAY."

Is that you in that lovely hat? Love it! And yes - you must have that chocolate shirt!! We all deserve to have days where we feel like a kid again!

You are a disgrace!! LOL!! LOL!! Don't tell anyone, but if I was there, I would have joined you. LOL!!

What a fan day you had Jeannette. I love the had and the fudge would have been eaten before I left the store. :)

Shellmo,
Yes, it's one of my many hats - thank you! I will wear that chocolate shirt like I'm seventeen (I wish -haha)!

Joan,
Yeah, beware of my impulses - I might get you in trouble LOL. Since I'm otherwise eating pretty healthy, I think my body forgave me that I put it in sugar shock that day, LOL

One days indulgence at our age is not going to do much difference is it. LOL!! In fact, it does us more good than harm to let our hair down for the day and live it up a little ..... but no dancing on tables or other misdemeanours please. I am watching you. LOL!!

Jeannette StG said...

Joan,
I'm shocked!!! Dancing on the...what? tables you say? I first would have to take dancing lessons LOL But, I wonder, is it a secret wish of yours?? (to be dancing on the tables, that is) - you're getting dangerous 'round this time of night (for you, morning, right)

Well, at our age, the damage has already been done, so who cares?LOL (in my whole life I was on a diet only ONCE - so I never was a weight watcher, the pun not intended).

LOL!! Here we always say if you had a bit too uch to drink then you want to dance on the table. LOL!! So, watch out if I ever get tipsy. :) Just kidding, that has never happened and will never happen in my lifetime. Diet? What's that?? LOL!!

Thanks for treating us to a lovely day out with lots of delicious things! I wish I could join you, although dancing on tables is out of the question! LOL.

It sounds like a perfect day, and those come along to rarely to waste! I'm glad you went for the gusto!

Oh ! the T-shirt is so cute. Thank you for sharing your trip.

I would have had to take the shirt, too. Really cute.

Lucien and I went to our local candy/ice cream shop yesterday, while on our walk in town. I LOVE the candy shop, the chocolates, the fudge, the ice cream (in ours) and the trinket items. It is every adult-childs dream place :o).

One day does not a problem make! I am glad you went for it!.

Jeannette, your outfit in the photo shows fine taste on your part, the blue of the blouse matching the blue of the hat's ribbon.

I wish you many happy returns of this enjoyable day!

Robyn,
Yes, it was really fun (I needed it, because the day before was kind of stressful - looking for a house). One of my preparations for Christmas is to make at least one badge of fudge. Now my daughter is taking over the tradition!

Jeannette StG said...

Joan,
You're on a roll, aren't you:) Yeah, I had already the feeling it had to do with drinking - and I knew that you were joking! I'm glad you don't know the word "diet" it's such a craze here!

Jeannette StG said...

Reader Wil,
Thank you, Wil. Who knows we can do this sometime! Overall, the chocolates in Holland are the best in the world...but they don't have fudge, and it's easy to make it yourself.
Yeah, dancing on the tables in Holland would be out of the question, if you don't want to be picked up by the police, LOL!

Rosie,
Have to admit, i am usually too serious and too "responsible" to do something like these things, so it was really good. Thank you, I just wrap a scarf around the straw hat in the color of my clothes, and it looks like a million dollars.

Jeannette StG said...

Barry,
sometimes we are taking ourselves too seriously, but the truth is that no one cares how I spend my day!
And I'm fortunate that I have a hubby who has not been bitten by the "age" and "diet" bug, so whatever I feel like doing/eating is fine with him.

Jeannette StG said...

Lillie,
Knowing your blog, I would think that you'ld like the cuteness of the shirt. But since I'm a Nana(grandma) it's kind of daring:)

Jeannette StG said...

Heather,
Ah, you are just as crazy as I am? I'm glad to know that!! A celebration of life is our best calling card, so to speak. I thought today, why do I think I'm "better" when I'm too serious?

Jeannette StG said...

Jane,
Since your blog speaks of adventures you had, I could picture you right with me! The shirt thing was something like "when I'm old I shall wear purple!"

Jeannette StG said...

Joey,
Yeah, how I agree with you! we need some days to be problem-less! (but not too many, because then it would get boring)

Jeannette StG said...

Duta,
Thank you for your kindness, Duta! I have that love affair with colors, and I know it's part of the visual stimulation I need as an artist.

Jeanette...all of us girls have just been having way too much fun lately, have we not? Just like over indulged children! Ha! My oldest son sent me Harry & David Chocolates with a miniture Pink Rose in a lovely picture! Their chocolate is dreamy!

Carol,
Indulgent - yes, you could say that! Maybe a second childhood now the kids are out of the house? First it takes a while to sink in, but then you realize how much freedom you have now:). Oooh, all the stuff from Harry and David is good! I'm happy for you that you have a thoughtful son!

That sounds like my kind of day! And that is one fantastic shirt!
I love chocolate/peanut butter fudge. What a great store - what a wonderful day! (Did you feel ill later from all the sugar? Sometimes it catches up with you, doesn't it?)

Kat

Jeannette StG said...

Thanks Kat, it was very enjoyable to forget for a day I was an adult!! Because I normally would not have bought that shirt:)
To counteract all the sugar and caffeine, we ate a greasy and salty Mexian meal - I must have a strong stomach LOL, a nice benefit from having traveled in different cultures - didn't feel a thing:)
Bytheway, your profie pic is cute!

Oh what a fun day you had and my mouth was watering over that homemade candy and I love those chocolate dyed shirts, too cool!

Jeannette StG said...

Thank you Denise. You didn't have a bad day yourself last Sunday! I'm envious of your pearl necklace - are you going to show it to us?

Jeannette StG said...

Lynette,
Can you tell, "diet" is not in my vocabulary? I guess now all the caffeine and sugar is out of my system, I'm beginning to think, What did I just buy??"
