Fourth of July Celebration

What will you be doing on the Fourth of July?

In the USA it is Independence day on the 4th of July.
The same day as my brother's birthday. He lives in Holland, but when
he was one year with us, he commented,
"Wow they're making a lot of hoopla here for my birthday!"
When our kids were still living at home
we went to the beach, or had a backyard BBQ with friends.
or maybe spent this day in San Diego,

because there was a spectacular spot at Seaport Village
where we could see the fire works very close up.

We continue that tradition, and maybe...

we'll go to Old Town
since the store where they make
home made ice cream, is back!

Or, we'll have a fun ride in a horse-drawn carriage

For certain we are going to have a cup of coffee
in our favorite book store,

Seaside Restaurant
14 x 20 Pastel, St.Germain

have dinner at the seaside,
so we don't have to re-park
the car (an impossible job on this day),
While painting this, a policeman came by,
looking, maybe because I sat too close
to the edge (hmmm)

and then get a nice spot around 8:00 pm
for the fireworks by the ocean side.

When I saw this pic from hubby from our white
bottle brush bush,
I immediately named it "fireworks"
it will nicely do here,
in lieu of a real fire work pic :)

We then leave 10 min. early
before the pandemonium of hundreds of cars
leaving at the same time, hits.
On the way back,
we also enjoy the fireworks of Disneyland
while driving by on the freeway, before we come home.
Wishing all of you a delightful 4th of July!

Loved your post Jeannette. My memories came flooding back of our trips to Seaport Village, when we lived in San Diego all those years ago. Beautiful photos. Have a Happy 4th of July.

I will not try the crowds and night for the fireworks this year, but will have a BBQ. One person I share the house with has a birthday on the 5th so i will combine the event!.

Denise,
thank you, Denise, I'm glad they were happy memories in San Diego!
You changed your profile pic - nice!!

Joey,
A BBQ is always very delicious and nice to have a small party instead of the crowds! Put a piece of chicken for me on there:)

It seems like all of it is a good idea to me Jeannette. I had to smile at your brothers remark. :) Hopefully I will be back to normal from Monday as I have eventually go my PC back.

Happy 4th of July, Jeannette. I have good memories of those days with our friends at barbecues in Costa Mesa. We watched the fireworks at the country club.

Great post, photos and as usual, your fabulous artwork, Jeannette!

We'll be attending something called Sand in the Streets (music, dancing, eats, drinks) and watching the fireworks.

Hey~! That's a lovely pastel drawing of the restaurant. I don't really like pastels that much: they are too messy~! Intersting photos, especially the "Firework flower" one. It looks a bit like some kind of sea urchin :O)

Hi Jeannette! Congrats with your Independence Day! I like your photos. Especially the watercolour of the seaside restaurant is gorgeous! The colours of the sea and the translucent sky are exquisite. Have a great weekend.

Joan,
Already wondered why you were writing less - it seemed unlike you LOL. Sorry you have to go through the inconvenience of not having your computer available!!

Irene,
so you lived in Costa Mesa? What a coincidence, that is where I'm going to move to - the border of South Santa Ana and Costa Mesa.
Yes, there's no day like the 4th! Also, hard to describe the atmosphere to people outside the USA.

Jeannette StG said...

Jane,
Having read your posts about your (former, LOL) wild years, that seems something you would like! Have a great 4th!

Jeannette StG said...

Shreddy,
Thank you Shreddy! True, pastel is very messy. I am continuously washing out stains!!! But still it's worth of what I am able to express with them. Even more of a disadvantage for me is the price, because you can't mix your own colors.
Have to admit, the last pic I processed in photoshop, because it is originally white - but I like the results.

Hi Reader Wil,
Thank you - glad you like the Seaside Restaurant! It's the only one standing in the water here. You have a great weekend too!

Yes Jeanette, I lived in a neighborhood called Mesa Verde. I still have friends there. You'll be shopping at South Coast Plaza where I used to hang out. What a coincidence.

Jeannette StG said...

Wow, Irene, talking about coincidences - the shopping center is a stone throw away from where the condos are (walking distance)!!! So, where is Mesa Verde - in Costa Mesa?

Great celebrations for 4th July! I love your bookshop's coffee table with a look over the park! So cosy! The firework flower is simply overwhelming. I do love the pictures, it is really extra ordinary!
Have a nice weekend - I'm two weeks off now, but I will stay in Vienna with occasional trips through the countryside :)

Yes, it's a neighborhood in Costa Mesa, right on the bluffs above Newport Beach. Always a nice sea breeze in the afternoon.

Maria,
Thank you Maria! Hurray, vacation for you! Have a lot of fun and relaxation!

I would recommend a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. I've recently had one in a horse drawn rural cart and it was great fun despite the bad road condition.

It's something else ,as we say, and it sends us back to a primitive but not forgotten means of transport which still functions in many parts of the world.

At least you know how to work with Photoshop...I have no clue :O) LOL, it's such a pity that you can't mix your own colours, otherwise you would be able to achieve beautiful shades.

While it has nothing to do with the 4th of July (which I hope you enjoyed), I am discussing your three part series on dreams on my blog today.

For someone who almost never recalls his dreams, I really enjoyed that learned from the series.

That sounds like a wonderful time.

We usually have a family picnic and grill out. My hubby is the grill master of the family.

I enjoyed fireworks as a kid, but now don't like the crowds.

I'm visiting from the Handsome Barry's blog - stopping to say hello!

Jeannette StG said...

Irene,
Of course now I have to visit your old neighborhood! :)

Jeannette StG said...

Abe and Patty,
Thanks for visiting this blog and are welcome any time! Hope you had a great fourth!
How often do you get a joke about your name, Abe? Just curious.

Jeannette StG said...

Duta,
Yes, you are right Duta. We often forget how advanced (read: spoilde) we are in many things of life. You are back!! Have to visit your blog to see what you're up to:)

Jeannette StG said...

Shreddy,
It's only because hubby took a class in Photoshop, so he taught me a few things. With pastel, the colors "mix" when you put layers on top of each other.

Jeannette StG said...

Barry,
Jazzed that the series on dreams was interesting to you - I consider that coming from a good writer, as a compliment. As I said on your blog, I'll email you in the next few days about your dreams.

Jeannette StG said...

Jen,
Nice that your hubby does the grilling! If you don't like the crowds to watch fireworks - we have watched it from friends homes living close by. Maybe that's an idea?

Katryn.
Hello there, and thank you for visiting -come here anytime! Went to your blog to look - congrats with the release of your book in April!

you have planned the perfect time!:)

that bottle brush bush does look exactly like fireworks!

Happy 4th!

Jeannette StG said...

Susan,
thank you! And since our pics of the fireworks on this 4th didn't turn out at all, I am happy with my make-believe firework pic LOL

What a great day and pictures to prove it!
Your bottlebrush is much much better than fireworks.

Beautiful painting of the seaside restaurant!

I'd love to have been there for the Fourth, I miss the hooply of that special day around here. The place by the window, in the bookstore, looks like a perfect spot for a few quiet moments.

Jeannette StG said...

Merisi,
Thank you! Because my origins are in Europe, to a restaurant or a bookstore and drink coffee is still something special -an outing to enjoy -you've caught it well my friend:)
