EMPTY, BUT NOT FOR LONG

Do you like this living room? I do. It is twice as small as the one I am living in now, but this one has atmosphere, and a great view to the outside.

The color of the wall is a mid-olive green. A great color, but it makes the room and hall look smaller, so the painter will give it a lighter touch, as well as one of the bed rooms, which is a blinding pink (I should have taken a pic or it!).

An empty room is a challenge to me, like a blank canvas, to give it character and personality. This is going to be my project for the coming weeks. I already have been visiting your blogs less for some time. Now you know that this is the reason, and not because I don't like your blogs anymore, or I have abandoned my blog - au contraire!

The only room (behind the arch) that needs serious work is the kitchen. When shelves are so deep that one can only reach half-way, it is unpractical and a waste of space. In the remodeled kitchen I have now, we solved that problem by making drawers instead of bottom shelves. Easy to reach and no back problems!
When hubby is done, maybe I can invite you for a BBQ on the deck!

remaking a new house to ones own likings is always fun and a challenge! It is also a lot of work. Have fun Jeanette!

Oh so my namesake was a pope was she? Hmmm!! I wonder if my saintly self was related. LOL!! Nope, I don't think so!! :)

This looks like a lovely place Jeannette. It does not matter where we move to, there is always something which needs doing and as hubby seems to be quite a handyman and you with your artistic talents, it will soo turn into the wonderful place you want it to be.

Count me in for the BBQ please. :) I will even come and help to paint to pay for it. LOL!! I like painting and fixing things .... oh here is an idea ..... hubby can do the fixing, you can do the arranging and I will do the garden!! How's that for a great deal you can't refuse. LOL!!

I'm looking forward to learn a lot from the way you're going to remodel your house.

By the way, I like arches and I'm all for drawers and against shelves.

Can't wait to see what it all looks like when you have finished with it Jeannette - you are going to post pictures, aren't you?

Invite me for a barbecue on the deck, but pay for my plane ticket too, please, because I can't afford it. Just kidding. You are in the right place, though, but I vowed never to travel long distance by plane again. I don't like the squeezed in like a sardine feeling and the extreme security checks. A little bit of paranoia goes a long way.

Nice place you've got there.

Joey,
Thank you Joey! I am really fortunate that I am able to choose a living space of my own liking. Yes, the challenging thing is to live with LESS!

Joan,
You wouldn't want to be related to your name sake - her father was barbaric!

Yes, I could actually see you showing up at my door, since you've been in the L.A. area before!
I am looking forward to it, without doing anything. Because I have to say goodbye to my garden.

Duta,
Thank you for your confidence in me. Sometimes I wish that I had the knowledge that I have now, when I was 20!!
Drawers are the handiest invention - I don't want to do without it!!!

What a delightful living room with a view and light, plus a fireplace. Although I don't care for that olive-green. It looks big to me, the size of my 5th-wheel and more. It's so fun to decorate a fresh new place. Glad you have a handy husband to make the kitchen usealbe. Sure hope to see more pics as you settle in. Yet understand the need to get away from the puter.
Please let me know when the BBQ is? I'll help Joan with the gardening.

Thank you friend, I'm assigning you with providing drinks
for the party :)

WeaverofGrass,
the good thing about blogging is that it has made me unashamed to show all my little quirks and idiosyncrasies - so if it's a couch cross-way in the middle of the room, I won't mind showing it LOL

Irene,
Thank you. You are right those long flights could be a bit incovenient. Those security checks - I make fun of 'em. Especially when they try to be the bully, I smile at them and start talking to them like I'm their sister - they mostly melt, and you see a little corner of their mouth go towards their cheek (they "get" it that their intimidation tactics don't work LOL).

Gary,
thanks Gary! When I'm back I''ll have myself a good time reading up on your stories!

Gaelyn,
Oh, it would be definitely bigger than a 5-wheeler. I told Joan already, I'll have to let go of my garden, but since I live at the corner, maybe there are some inobtrusive ways to squeeze some of my own plants in between LOL. Got some organizational skills? I need someone in that area!
Good idea - I'll make some "before" and "adter" pics:)

What a beautiful house and I love the living room with that great window! It sounds like you're looking forward to making this a wonderful home.

Lynette,
Thank you! Yes and no, it's a challenge to make more from less. Also, the precious owners stripped towel bars, door knobs, etc. - anything that could be unscrewed!

It looks very promising, Jeannette! I am looking forward to having that barbie with you and seeing the final result of your decorating.

Reader Wil,
It would be great to see all my bloggie friends face to face at some time!! And have a BBQ of course - I'm always up for a party!

I think you can be so much creative in a smaller space - so create away. Let me know when the BBQ is happening - I'll bring something... besides myself.

Jeannette StG said...

Violetsky,
Thanks for your confidence in me! Because I'll have to be creative - the easel needs to stand in the living room too, because I can't sleep with oilpaint fumes next to my bed LOL
I'll keep yoy up to date on the BBQ:)

How lovely to be able to work on those empty rooms and make them your own - I love the huge windows in your living room - I hope your move goes well:)

Thanks for your visit! Yes they are renovating or repairing the castle continuously, because the stoe work is very brittle and weatherbeaten. It's a very old castle, almost 500 years old.

Jeannette StG said...

Rosie,
Thank you - the view is an added bonus! It will be a challenge to not overstuff the place, since there is one bedroom and half a garage less, and a livingroom half the size I have now!

Reader Wil,
On our next visit to Europe I have promised myself that we need to see a few castles When you live there, you don't think anything of it! The same with musea. When the kids were with us, I made sure they saw the Rijksmuseum, the Louvre, and Musee Picasso.
