SCRIBBLE/DOODLE WINDOW - RAMBLE TOO

This was one of our lunch spots  near the river during our vacation. I love rivers because they are always in motion.
I am not even half way done with my sketch, located in the right column. (It has become a habit of posting, even exhibitng paintings that are unfinished).
In a later post you'll understand why, and I know you'll like it BETTER!

Today, I deleted the first comment ever. It was kind of disturbing to me. Too graphic, too intimate of a profile pic. At first I did not believe what I saw, and went to that person's blog to give that person the benefit of the doubt.

In graduate school (everyone who has been there calls it grad school) I took a course or two in speed reading, since English is my second language, and I never could get done with my weekly asignments. I went from 100 words a minute to 250 words a minute (which means also comprehension wise) after the first course, and I believe to 450 or 500 words after the second course.

So, it took me only a few seconds to decide that the blogpost was insulting to the way I think about people, about life, and about love. Especially the last subject. I didn't even want to find out whether this was a man's or a woman's blog. That's how fast I wanted to get off that blog.
Since this is my blog, I like everyone to enjoy what they possibly would like to look up, not only on this blog, but also everyone who appears on my comments or my blog list. Everyone who starts checking "Is it me?" means you're NOT the one!

Luckily I started this early day (6 AM, Joan!) with a good cup of coffee and a doughnut! So, I am still in a good mood:) But now I really need to scoot and have some lunch - very typical for a Dutchman:
bread with a thick slice of Gouda cheese.
What else is there?
Have a great day, bloggie friends!

Hopefully I can show you the finished Scribble/Doodle next week.

Looks like an enjoyable place for lunch. Love listening to flowing water. Once lived by a creek and the babble changed all the time. I really like the sketch and look forward to the next step.
Sorry to hear about your bad blogger comment experience.

Gaelyn,
Now you said this to me about my sketch, maybe you understand why I like to see more about your
pastel(s) LOL.

Actually the comment was okay and neutral, but the profile pic started my research... So, no harm was done yet, but I see things coming miles ahead.

The spot by the creek looks lovely and reminds me of a creek I used to live close to. The drawing looks good so far and I'm sure it will make a wonderful painting.

Ya..some blogs are bizzare not to mention insulting. Anyway, you have so many lovely photos here & your sketch looks awesome.
Have a great day (it's late I'm sure)..evening? Thanks for the B Day wishes too-

I like to see the beginnings of a piece of art work. Thanks for sharing your sketch. I think it can stand like it is, but look forward to seeing the end result.
Do you turn most every sketch into a painting or do keep some just like they are?
Too bad about the weird comment and blog. I did run across kind of a distasteful blog, from a person that had left a comment once on my poetry blog. The comment was fine, but the blog was not. Needless to say I never visited that site again.

Its your blog and you certainly have the right to insure its content reflects your sense of life. I have had to delete some comments on mine usually for wildly inappropriate content.

Loved the sketch, by the way.

You were up at 6am? Why that late? LOL!! It is only 5am here now and I have been working for more than an hour. :)

I have deleted one or two myself Jeannette so dont feel bad. Unfortunately there is not much control over who comments. It is amazing how common some people are.

That sketch look like it is going to be a good painting.

Jeannette StG said...

Irene,
yes, I hope that it will turn out to be a good painting. You never know though in the beginning stages:)
How is yours turning out?

I would love to live close to a creek!

Regina,
Thank you - hope the painting will be a keeper! I wonder if your birthday cake lasted another day, or not?
You know, that's what we do in Holland. The one who had the birthday, provides for the refreshments (and the party is mostly at their house).

Hi Jen,
No, I have plenty of sketches (and sketch books)that stay sketches, but the ones I post here, I often develop/finish more.

Maybe I gave the wrong impression: the comment was okay, but the profile pic was "off", so that's why I went looking.
But I deleted the comment, sothe kids of my friends that I've given this blog address to can't look up that blog.

Jeannette StG said...

Barry,
Yes, I remember that you wrote about it when you became a blog of note in the past:)
It seems that weird or inappropriate people are on every blog site, not only on the ones who are known for it.

Any dreams lately? (just teasing) Hope you and your dear wife are able to keep up your strength and positive attitude.

Joan,
I'll never enter into competition with you (on waking up, that is), because I know I'll lose! Unless I'll stay up all night (I'm rolling my eyes now)!!

Wow, deleted comments on your blog? I'm surprized - I thought that only bookish and country-ish nature lovers would visit you:) What is the world coming to!! (You can say that when you're over 50 LOL)

That blog you felt was weird, has probaby a good chance of getting "Blog of Note" ( alhough I must admit most of the Blog of Note blogs deserve to be recognized as such).

Lovely picture , that by the river, and it looks like an ideal spot for a picnic lunch.

It's unsettling when you get a strange or ambiguous comment isn't it? I've had to delete only one or two since I started blogging - it isn't a nice feeling. Meanwhile your sketch of the river scene is wonderful and your lunch sounds very tasty:)

Beautiful place and photo, and I like your sketch too!

And of course you have all the right to decide for yourself if you want to delete a comment from your blog - for whatever reason!

Hi Jeannette - I seem to have somehow missed your blog for a while - I think you probably put your post on at such a time that by the time I look at my blog list it is way down the line. So hello again. Sorry someone upset you with their comment. It does happen sometimes but on the whole I think we are all so lucky to have such good bloggy friends. Have a nice day.

Lovely place, exciting sketch!

I have had to delete comments; I refuse to have my Dear Readers offended. Our blogs are our 'spaces' just as much as our living rooms are.

I'm sorry you had to encounter an unpleasant soul. But I thank you for not exposing me to the unpleasantness. I love your blog.

all the best

Jeannette StG said...

Duta,
Naah, I don't think that blog will ever make it to a blog of note, LOL too many readers would be offended!!!

Thanks Duta - I always like reading about your travels, and you are a brave soul to go to some of those places alone!
Yes that picknic spot we really enjoyed.

Jeannette StG said...

Rosie,
The comment in itself was fine, but it was the profile pic that was inappropriate, and the person's blog even worse.
Now I've posted this, it seems a common experience. But it is unsettling!

That lunch spot was really fun.

Dawn Treader,
Even considering myself as a (for the USA) liberal European, I didn't want to let this one slide.
I think of the children, they are so impressionable -I know they take peeks when their parents aren't looking!!

Jeannette StG said...

Weaver of Grass,
Don't worry about it, Weaver! I mostly post in the middle of the night - or at noon, both would be 8-9 hours later for you.
O yes, after all these months, this is the first one (that's probably why I didn't expect it at all LOL)
and I love the friends I gained here at Blogger:)

Jeannette StG said...

Patience,
yeah I'm with you Patience:) I'm mostly friendly, but I spring into gear as a Doberman when someone crosses a certain line. (Probably has to do with my job as a therapist)

I wish I had your humor to expose this kind of thing - you are a very good writer, hope you know that!!

I like your Lunch Spot sketch just the way it is, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you might do with it. I am often up by 4:00AM, but that's because my old cat wakes me up each morning.

I love where you are going with that painting! I too have not published 2 comments, one who is a mostly regular now and is dealing with a physical disease - to my mind strangely, but it is his way. the other was plain spam. That is why there is comment moderation!

Jeannette StG said...

Joey,
Thank you Joey! You haven't posted a painting for a while - is that what is happening with your job taking your energy away from painting?

Yeah, I think comment moderation in this/my case wouldn't have helped, since it was not the comment, but the profile pic.

Marvin said...

Your lunch spot along the river is beautiful and I know you will create and equally beautiful work of art.

The only comments I've had to delete were run-of-the-mill spam, but those seem to be increasing so I've gone to comment moderation.

Jeannette StG said...

Thank you for your confidence in me, Marvin!
Can you believe it, this was a blogger! And it was not the comment, but the profile pic, and when I went on the blog, it became worse.

Yes Jeannette, it is the job. i started something, but working 6 days leaves me little time for many things I want. My creativity is channeled into cooking (something essential) at his time and I am hungering for the time to paint again.

Jeannette StG said...

Joey,
Oh too bad, hope that you can soon reclaim your time! I know what you mean. When too much time passes that I can't paint, I get cranky :)
When I don't have time I do little sketches - even that helps for me!

Unknown said...

There is spam, and then there is the obnoxious comments.
I hace had 2-3 of each.
Not a big deal, but I remember being really worked up about it at the time.

Jeannette StG said...

Matthew,
yes, the same for me, upset at the time, because someone is not respecting your/my space.
Not to worry, I'm good now:)
