People in California do not know how to handle rain, so when it starts raining, traffic on the freeway comes to an almost dead stop. Very annoying for people who have lived elsewhere!!
Besides, so much oil has gathered on the surface of the road during the long dry periods that it's extremely slick and many accidents happen, also because cars here are known for tailgating.
In exploring my new neighborhood, I see that the rain has more impact. We are closer to the ocean, so it is consistently between 7-10 degrees cooler with more moisture in the air. The rain doesn't evaporate as quickly as at my old house, so it actually "feels" wet for a day!
All these wet leaves are are jumping out at me.
Californians are an impatient kind of people. At least in Southern California. After a few days of rain, everyone has had enough of the rain, and want the sun to come out.
And it always does:)
In Dry Country, you can imagine that a rainbow is a rare sight in this neck of the woods. I treasure the pic I could take, while on the road.

Perhaps I should invite Californians here for an advanced level course on living and driving on rainy days.
On second thought, with all the rain and cloud we've had recently, it would be too depressing for them.

After the many fires that south California has suffered, the rain is a blessing; it will clean the smoky air and the dusty surface.

it's funny how they start complaining after 4 days of rain, like it has been pouring for 4 weeks LOL It's even funnier when it gets colder than 40 degr. F. - out come the boots (not raining, not snowing!).

Most of them would fail that course, believe me! It's funny though how the news casters encourage people to stay home and not be on the road when it rains!

Yes, environmentally it would be so much better. Also, we need water for drinking, because they (the state) keep buying water from other states!!
Slippery roads can be a HUGE problem with the first rains and I have seen horrendous accidents.
I am not sure I ever want to live close to the coast where that himidity and dampness is in the air all the time. I am so used to the dryness of the bush where the rain scarcely falls and it is dry again.

So many of the people living in S CA aren't from there, so they can't understand how precious the rain is. They come for the sunshine. They drive even worse in snow.

I really like your first two pictures! We've also just had quite a lot of rain here in South Africa. Do you just love it when it rains? And the refreshing smell afterwards is just as wonderful :)

In Holland at the coast it's damp, wet and cold the whole winter, but in CA it's the opposite. In the evening, the rain fallen in the morning is a distant memory, because by then it's hot and dry again LOL

I love it AFTER the rain is over - everything is clean, fresh and I can go on with my life LOL
In Holland we have so much rain throughout the year (same as in England) that I had enough for a life time:)

Sounds like California reacts to rain much like Houston reacted to snow.
The pictures are nice, we have rain again here in CT, but is pretty.
Thanks for this post.. I rarely stop to wonder about those who receive no rain or my beloved snow.. And I couldn't imagine living anywhere where all climates are not evident.. I love my 4 seasons and adore my beloved snow... I have friends in Cali. and they're always asking me to visit.. I'll have to check out their weather first.. Lol.. I'll be the one person flying in for the rainy weather!

ps it's also extremely dry here at the moment...last week we had a welcome shower and then a bit of misty rain...I went for a walk to the dog park and, at that time of the day, there's usually at least 20 designer dogs frollicing about..with owners standing about talking...and not a one...
The last shot is fantastic! We've had our first rains too and though I hate it, we really need them after a long dry summer... the problem is it came as a storm!

Wonder what would happen if we had snow in the (valley) of Southern CA - they probably would HIDE till it was over LOL Although at rare occasions we have had hail here, but never snow (only on elevations of 4000 feet and higher).

Go to your friends between Jan.1 and end of March - that mostly when it rains here. Or, you tell your friends to meet in the mountains around the same time, that's when you have a chance of snow:)

Looked at your blogs some more - the header for your traveling page is amazing - I didn't know that India also had a desert!! Haven't come to that country yet. My brother urges me to go to Egypt, because there are so many historical things there.

The blessings we perceive can be so closely related to the curses. Something so needed for growing life such as water, can also be such a destructive force. With one fall sustaining life and with one swoop drowning it.
We have received so much rain this autumn many farm crops around me will rot in the field instead of being harvested.
We saw a rainbow on the way home this evening, too! Aren't they wonderful? It rained here yesterday and we saw a car go into the back of the one in front; it had stopped to let a car turn right - what is it about rain that makes people concentrate less? Love your leaf photos:)

Yes, I love rainbows, they are such a sign of hope! Had to chuckle about the car story - I don't know why people contrate less with rain. Maybe because they're in a hurry to get out of the rain?
