We went to a very picturesque town, about 3 1/2 hours away from us, called Solvang. The town has a Danish history. I have never been to Denmark myself, but Lego shows that the Danes are good in business
When we entered town we had trouble finding a parking place. I saw that the road in the distance was marked off, and I understood at once that it would be better to park outside town,
because we just had come in time for ...the parade!
With a small town where everybody knows everyone, it is kind of fun to watch people., and who knows who in the parade:)
There were basically four ways people on the parade came:
on horse
it was cute to see that there were people specifically designated
and walking as part of the parade
and walking as part of the parade
to scoop up the poop
in cars and wagons -this one got some cheers
on motor bike.
The armed forces got a long applause, which did my heart good.
Independence and freedom is a precious good
And on foot. Don't you love these giant tubas?
The coffee places and restaurants were so overloaded afterward that we decided to keep the pastries and dinner there for another time.
Aaah. the perfect day, because I had the chance to shop! Another time I'll post some things about "going Danish!"
As you already noticed, I interrupted my travel log. Think I'm gonna post the rest in Aug. when several family events are going to take place.

What fun celebrations they are! These photos remind me of the 4th of July celebrations I attended in the US.
Hello my friend. I wish I had the guts and energy to go out and about on the 4th. I retreat to my little part of the world, my family room or den ;-)
It's scary out there, at least for me. I guess because I've been in law enforcement for almost 20 years, everything reminds me of a crime of opportunity.... kind of sad now that I type it.
But how blessed am I that I get to see butterflies in my neighbood each time I walk my dog, I don't have any window treatment on most of my windows so I'm either watching the sunrise, the sunset, the beautiful clouds, the stars and the moon from inside my home? And the icing on the cake, during the summer months, when there's a home game at the Maryland Blue crab's Stadium, I get to see the free fireworks from my bedroom window on Friday and Saturday nights!
I love and appreciate when you stop by my blog and I'm praying that we can meet some day!

I love the U.S. celebration of its birthday. This year we stayed home; I watched the fireworks in Washington, D.C. while my husband and dog when to local spot to watch our local fireworks display.

I love parades. As you say, it's fun to see the folks you know dressed up (funny or not) and demonstrating their passion. It's also fun to be in a parade. Parade participants can be as silly as they wish - and it becomes socially acceptable. People even cheer you on.
Umm, I know probably nobody else cares, but ...
IKEA is not Danish! It was started in Sweden and is now owned by a Dutch holding company. The initials I, K, E, and A are from the first letters of the founder's first and last names (Inbgvar Kampard) the farm where he grew up (Elmtaryd) and the name of his home parish (Agunnryd). But don't take my word for it, check it out on Wikipedia.

Small town parades are fun for sure. Not because the parades are long, though, but more because of all the people there lining the streets. :)

Yes, it's sad that you're staying home because of crime! Maybe time to change jobs? Or make one of your hobbies your job? Or take a vacation? Anyways, in short, hope you get another view of life...it's too valuable to retreat and stay at home, friend! Yes, wouldn't it be great to meet!

My parents lived near there 20+ years when they retired. My mother's favorite restaurant is in Solvang and I cannot recall the name of it although there are a number of excellent restaurants there and in Los Olivos.
Nice to see the photos. Makes me homesick. We had a very hot 4th here and are, in fact, still in an unbelievably oppressive heat wave. My gosh, this is the mtns~!

A parade brings up good memories of the time I lived in a small town when I was a little kid!
But I'm looking forward to the time that we are going to taste some Danish pastries!!

I love the area, hilly and lots of water places, away from the big city but still big enough with grocery and clothing stores around.
Sorry, you have such a heat wave, it's such so strange, that we are here in the 70ties, and you are there in the upper 90ties-100s. Hope it will be over soon, especially for the ones living in the inner cities.

A nation's birthday celebrated without a parade is very dull. In Solvang you've watched a real celebration of the fourth of July with an impressive parade - the memory of which will stay with you for a long time.
I love small town parades - we go to go to one on the 4th. Everybody seemed to know everybody else, and was in great cheer.
