Hot Pot restaurant on the W-side of Tienanman Square

Last family get together my daughter and son in law made Pho,
a Vietnamese soup that has similar ingredients to Hot Pot, a Chinese dish
that you see below.

We ate ithis meal in Beijing in August 4 years ago,
after a very rainy walk over Tienanman Square.
Looked much bleaker than this,
but wanted to show the colorful umbrellas

We spent three hours here, putting the razor thin slices of pork and beef
in the broth with spices in the steaming hot pot standing in the middle,
as well as dipping vegetables in the hot broth
incredibly satisfying meal!

A detail of the building below at the N-Gate.

Don't you love these street lanterns too?

Every child around the globe loves to play and dress up:)

Penang has more to offer, in term of food.

Pho is very delicious, I also cannot deny this. I have tried this a few years back in Hanoi.

Rainfield,
Forgot in which country is your home...Do you have a favorite dish like this?

Nitwit,
The old buildings are beautiful! Don't know what is inside of us that likes to preserve and rever the old!

California,
Oh, isn't that the truth!

Dianne,
Even though we came back with 500pics, I still wish I had taken some more pics of some place:)

Visiting from "Midweek Blues". I adore the photo with the umbrella. Interesting composition and that shot of color in the umbrella is just perfect.

These photos are stunning.

I think this is going to be the best yet. The things I have seen are very encouraging and the photography is spot on. I really admire your photography skills and your critical eye for composition, lighting and texture.

Too bad you had such gray weather in Beijing, Jeanette... but I do like the hot pot on a cold wintry day.

Jientje,
Thank you for visiting! You're at the right place:) Isn't it a beautiful building?

Kathy,
Thank you for visiting! It was one of those happy accidents -in haste to protect my camera from the rain:)

Rebecca,
Yeah, the quys there don't hesitate to use an umbrella or parasol - they're smart:)

EG Wow,
It was one those whirlwind, once in a life time trips - 4 major cities in one week, lol!

Kim,
I didn't know about that period -when was that? Right after the Tiananman Square massacre?

Johnina,
Thank you -this is the brighest side of the Chinese culture!

Abraham,
Thank you for the encouraging word, and also thanks for visiting here:)

Dee,
Thank you, and also for visiting! Once in a while we have all the right conditions for our camera:)

Mickie,
Thank you, Friend! This is only half of the Square - one can see it's made for big spetacles like parades, etc.

SORRY PEOPLE, I'M SO LATE WITH MY REPLIES:(

'Tsuki,
When I took the pic it was the end of the shower! It came down with buckets and didn't want my camera wet!

Tatjana,
Thank you so much:)

Lucy the Cat and James,
Thank you! At the time it didn't seem that great of a pic, but I like that one, because the umbrellas are one of the cheerful things on this square.

Sallie,
Haha, when you're hungry it means you read this whole post:):)

Ewok,
Thank you - at least some enjoyment after the rain (the hotpot restaurant)!
