Every culture and even every family
has its own Christmas time traditions.
These are some ours.
A favorite dish in our family of sweet potato with onions and apple slices
with just a dash of nutmeg - subtle and healthy:)
a great way to pair with turkey or chicken
How to make it:
boil the sweet potatoes in a separate pan,
peel and slice them
while sauteeing a sliced onion with butter till transparent.
Then add one or two (tart) Granny Smith apples
(peeled, cored, and sliced)
add 1/2 cup of water, and simmer till apples
are still crunchy (about 5 min.)
Blend onions and apples in with sweet potatoes.

Activities with the (now grand) kids
baking, decorating,

even painting a watercolor
Since we live in California, we try go up
to the mountains 2 hrs away and have a day in the snow,
but at least a walk -ah so beautiful and refreshing!
Every year a few new ornaments
2 years ago I started this collection of balls
of the Huntington Library
These look more like eggs,
with the fragile appearance of china -
a flashback from the Christmas tree in my childhood
mostly don't finish till right before Christmas
Shhhh - knitted a cowl for my daughter in a 2-color brioche stitch
on the reverse side, the pink dominates
( saw this scarf yesterday displayed in Antropologie - a clothing store)
This year my sacrifice ( in time) went to this little lamb
for our two-year-old grand daughter Peach
for our two-year-old grand daughter Peach
but that's what Christmas is about:)
What are your traditions in your 12 days before Christmas?
and last but not least
a merry Christmas to you and yours!

Anonymous,
I've let you make comments for a while, since I can't find a place to reply. I am not for any kind of smoke, since I don't have a chimney on my head. So, please get a regular blog!
Clytie,
Thank you dear friend! I'll go to your blog to tell I added how to make the sweet potato dish.

I don't know what the "newer" traditions are, but maybe they'll turn up at the comments here!
Naturefootstep,
That would be too long for me too! You could make a trip to a warmer area in the winter?
Whitemist,
Am curious what you used to put onions and apples with? Glad we're having a lot of rain here.

Some people start playing Christmas music TOO early! I don't start until at least 12/12, but I'll play certain stuff until Epiphany!
Welcome back to blogging, and to ABCW.

Lovely holiday traditions there -- isn't it fun to continue with the grandkids! (We did that 20 years ago -- I can't believe our oldest grandkids are that grown up now!)
I love sweet potatoes and those gingerbread cookies look delicious too! Also loved your beautiful little lamb. Our new tradition here is to catch a live performance of The Messiah.
A gret gingerbread creation. :)
That orange dish looks delicious - i would like it with a veggie loaf too! Great collection of pics! Happy Christmas:)
