VACATION PICS

These are my vacation snapshots. Most of our vacations are lazy daisy "urban camping" vacations. What are those? It means camping the city way: in a cabin:)
These are pics taken in Yosemite, between 4000 and 9000 feet.

Mommy lets me throw rocks - but...only in the water, Junior! So, that is what 2-year old Junior did ALL afternoon!
He saw his sippy cup with milk being carted off by the squirrels. He kept calling "Milk, milk." But when his mom understood what was going on it was too late! They also took care of chewing through the mouth piece of hubby's Camel pack(water backpack).

Son-in-law, EMT-er, relaxing with fishing, before he starts on his paramedics courses. He caught 2 brown river trout, and so did my daughter. We ate grilled trout that evening. Very tasty!

He gave his fishing buddy (hubby) a new rod for Fathersday with the joking comment "Now I don't have to hear your whining that you left your fishing rod at our place."
You can see hubby does his fishing when he dances.

What else would I do at a place with rocks and waterfalls but paint a small oil?
This was a memorable last day.
Before hubby came back from his hike, soaked to the bone, when taking a pic at the top of bridalveil falls (9000 feet),

I heard some people yelling and screaming.
At first I payed no attention, because I was painting.
But they continued, so finally I looked up.
A couple of people standing at the bridge were signing with their hands. It was meant for me!
I gestured "What?" But finally I got the message. I looked down at the rock
where I had put my palette on. It was gone!
Then one of the people pointed at the water. When I looked in that direction, I saw my palette dancing merrily in the stream!
Just so you know I am "suffering" for my cause!

Hi Jeannette, nice to have you back, without your palette? The photos look great and I guess you all had a good time. Yosemite is a great place for it. I still remember how the woods smell. Your little grandson is adorable, but to bad about his stolen cup. I hope Mom packed a second one.

Hugs,
Irene

Thanks for sharing, this is one of 2 national parks i have not been to.
I love the falls. Now what are you going to paint?

Did you lose your palette Jeannette or did you manage to retrieve it? If you lost it then mmaybe a mermaid will find it and paint watery pictures in the depths.

Great vacay shots Jeannette but I had to laugh at your palette floating away! The bridal veil falls is just beautiful; glad you guys were having fun and eating caught trout to boot.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Grilled trout sounds good, my family and I enjoy that too.

Too bad you lost your palette. Will you still paint some scenes from photos?

I can not remember if I posted to this or not. Yosemite is one of 2 Mational Parks i have not been to. Thanks for sharing

Irene,
Thank you - glad to be back. Grandson got a new sippy cup, and my first trip to the store when back was to get a new palette LOL Yosemite was great, and there was a lot of water this year, so the rivers were wide, the waterfalls really splashy.

Joey,
This is the only national park I know, so we still have to visit a lot of other ones:)
This one has thousand scenes to paint - and they have free painting lessons by professional artists - 5 days a week, each for 4 hours. Many of my landscape paintings have been painted there.

WeaverofGrass,
You have a sense of humor:)
If there are mermaids, then they'll have the job!- there was a strong wind, and under the trees I had my jacket on, so between 4000 and 9000 feet you can imagine how frigid the water is!
The palette was not a big loss, but I was stunned for a moment, because how do you explain that you "lost" your palette??
I knew my bloggie friends would understand though LOL

Jane,
thank you Jane, there will be more pics to come, because Yosemite is one of my favorite spots to do my en plein air painting. Luckily it doesn't happen every day that I lose my palette LOL

Jen,
Yes, we had a great time - vacations like this are always too short! I always pack a backback full of art stuff for oil, watercolor, and sometimes pastel - I rather lose a palette than a brush LOL - so I have several paintings I started that I will finish at home.

Joey,
This is only a beginning of all the pics we both shot at Yosemite (500 of them!)
So, you'll see some more of the Nat. park.

Great to have you back my friend!! I missed you!!

This seems like the ultimate, relaxing, peaceful holiday even if you picture did float of downstream!! :) I can just imagine the look on your face when you saw what was happeining.

I have been away for the weekend so am trying to catch up too and will get to the e-mails a bit later as it is end of the month here again and you know by now ow that goes. :)

Joan,
I'm glad you took off for the weekend! Hope it was restful as well as fun:)
Yes, the blog was in the back of my mind while on vacation, wondering how everyone was doing - strange that one gets used to this community so quickly LOL
I knew, but I forgot it's the end of the month. Glad you reminded me!

You must have had an adventurous vacation by the looks of it, but also a very enjoyable one! Sorry you lost your palette! I wish you a great week!

Jeannette StG said...

Reader wil,
Yes, my vacations there are wonderful!
Luckily the palette was not a great loss, since I always carry tubes of paint with me. It was more that I was stunned: how in the world can you lose a palette?? Now I know!

I recently made reservations to go to Yosemite in October. I haven't been there in a long time so I am looking forward to just sitting with my watercolors and painting. I loved looking at your vacation shots and just had to smile at those pesky squirrels making off with the sippy cup full of milk!

Jeannette StG said...

Lillie,
You are welcome, we had a great time. The palette was not that great of a loss - I thought it was kind of humorous, because I'm "always" so careful with my art stuff (not careful enough I guess LOL)

Jeannette StG said...

Cottage way of life,
That will be wonderful to paint- do you know they have groups that go daily to do watercolor with a teacher-artist to a location to do watercolors? Sign up at the art center - it's free!
Yeah, those squirrels are agressive, but it is because people feed them!

this is one of those spots I have always wanted to visit... one day!

thank you for your comment on my blog: I would love to hear your professional opinion as a psychologist and teacher, and your private opinion as a mother about the whole raising children with a deep appreciation and love to nature thing. it is a topic that fascinates me.

btw, I am just a pseudo European in that I was born and raised in South Africa, spent a good while in central america and then married an austrian...

Dale,
Wow, you're international, huh? So, do you consider yourself African, South American or Austrian??
The whole "nature thing" came by "accident", because after my kids were born, I went to grad. school, so camping was all we could afford back then. So, nature is associated by my kids as having fun, and vacation. Nature and animals are there for us to enjoy, but I didn't grow up with that myself.
Thanks for visiting my blog!

Jeanette, thanks for sharing your wonderful vacation with us but I'm sorry your palette floated away. Yosemite looks like such a gorgeous place!

Lynette - thanks for reading - it was a great vacation. The longer I am away from the experience, the more humorous it seems to me:)

Great photos of your vacation. What a shame about the palette being lost - glad you can see the funny side now and that you got a new one:)

Rosie,
Thank you! I have the habit to get too attached to my things! This was a reminder that many things can be replaced LOL
