XMAS CARD MAKING

In the city there are always plenty Christmas parties.
One of them I don't want to miss. Our friend John
is a graphic designer for a doughnuts company.
About ten years ago he started a Christmas Open House.

where artists and their families brought goodies,
and if they played, they brought their musical instruments.

Why people kept coming back to his open house,
was not the pizza,  or scrumptious desserts,
but the card making he started.

Someone had given him a hand printing press
that was more than a 100 years old.

The artists made their "card" on a woodcut,
covered with linoleum.

The tricky part is that the print will be reversed from what you see here. Also lettering. That's why I don't do them. This artist did!
(it says: Peace on Earth)

The youngest artist, 4 years old, is in the first pic, with our friend John. The girl on the right  has been coming since she was a toddler.

All afternoon and evening, people came to make their cards.
To see me and the Christmas card I am making, hop over to ART NOTES
(click on the top pic of the right column to get there).
If you have trouble getting to ART NOTES, please let me know!

Fishing Guy,
It's even more fun to do it! Do you have some art that you're pursuing?

Gary,
Let me know if you had trouble getting there...

What an awesome party theme! No wonder people keep coming back year after year.

What a lovely sentiment! I love the idea of being together with friends and make Christmas cards. I like the pictures you are posting here as well.;)

Your friend's Christmas party requires more talent and skill than any I've ever attended, but looks like fun. I imagine I'd probably spend my time, eating and observing, though.

Rudee,
I've thought myself on starting a party like that -what holds me back is the hand press and the tools!

Zuzanna,
And a great way to get to know new people. Even met someone from this blogger here!

Marvin,
Enough people come, watch, talk, and eat to keep you company! This was the first time, hubby helped me with the background (because he has more strength in his hands (he's a carpenter).

This is where I get geeky, I use a computer, not for perfect images, but because it is easier and I can.
Looks like loads more fun your way tho...

Joey,
Since you like painting, my hunch is that would soon join in if you would be at this party. It's fun, because no one is a pro at this, so plenty mess ups are made by everyone!

That handprinting press is awesome!

What a great idea to use the old press and offer this artistic opportunity. I remember trying to carve letters backwards.

Gaelyn,
Our friend John comes from a very artistic father -a pretty well known author in certain circles.

I can tell you have experimented with a lot of things, Gaelyn!
Hope your computer is doing better?
