BLISS IS....

Something blissful to you may be different for you than it is for me.
Bliss may  a simple or unexpected pleasure,
yet it brings me the greatest joy possible!

Bliss is inadvertently finding a pic that stirs up
inspiration for a blog post, because you put 1 & 2 & 3 together.

Borrowing a technical term from psychology, our mind works
with associations we already know, to make new links.
Think how intricate our brain is! I never could come close
to making an accurate diagram of what happens in our neuro pathways.
Sorry, I got a little too technical there:)

After blogging some months I started realizing
how much I love nature (even though I am a staunch city dweller).
Just gazing at  the top of this tall birch with bare branches is a "wow."

Or, seeing these big Koy  fish swimming around the lily pads.

Or, when painting a complicated watercolor
at an art event just works out the way I want it to look

Or, when I found this cool journal for 40% off
(on the cover is a print of one of the letters of Van Gogh)

Or, finding a new background for this blog - it's like shopping
for a new dress (without having to pay!)

What is blissful to you?

Sitting quietly by the lake in My Muskoka , listening to the sounds, looking around me.
Thanks for visiting my neck of the woods!

Warm sunshine; cooling breeze; the scent of wild flowers; the smiles of loved ones - I could go on for ever Jeannette.

Beautiful post, Jeannette.

I think photography is what has been most blissful to me over the past six months especially - a way to focus and get away from distractions.

Lovely post; I agree with you. Nature will never cease to surprise, mesmerize and entice me.
I also find certain moments in time, filled with very simple pleasures absolutely blissful; such as a lovely autumn walk in the woods in a good company, winter evening in front of the fire, feeling the sun on my face and the sand between my toes at a nearby beach in the summer...
Love the journal by the way, how extraordinary.

I call it "blissful moments" when I derive immense joy and pleasure from getting some exciting news/ looking at a beautiful item/ listening to a favorite piece of music/ eating a most beloved dish/ watching the amazing colours in Nature/ seeing the angelic smile of a child... the list is endless.

Jen Silks 2x!
You must love your place by the lake very much! Thank you for sharing. And it seems you don't mind the cold weather either:)

Weaver,
the scent of wild flowers - aah that's a good one -Glad you are enjoying life so much!

The Muse,
I agree -reading the words of others is so energizing! I should have made my list a little longer:)

Monika,
Thank you, friend! Isn't it great to have something to get "lost" in that restores your soul?

Zuzanna,
Nature is so inspiring -without it, life would be rather boring! And the simple things we seem to enjoy the most...

Duta,
yes, a great meal is something to treasure. Never enough time to listen to music - addicting!

I would sit in quite woods and look to the sky,
The trees would wave to the sky and
the birds would wave at me.
That was bliss!
Nature always has a way to inspire us artists,
but some times so do cityscapes!

Joey,
Nature is an endless source of inspiration - it's good, so the next generations cover some subjects/objects we didn't get to paint!

Blissful moments...hmmm probably when I am holding a new born baby in my arms, (lately the newborn grandbabies) and I watch their tiny expressions as they sleep, and their smell when you snuggle your nose into their sweet little necks. Blissful moments...so many, too many to list. sigh...

Linda,
Am glad that you enjoy the new life of your grand babies!

A steaming cup of tea and a cozy chair is blissful to me on below zero days.

There are many blissful things of my life. Yesterday I found a letter one of my children wrote, telling me that I was the most honest and faithful mum... and I was very glad, I could cry for sheer bliss.
Thanks for your visit. I didn't visit much either only to answer comments, for I didn't feel well, due to an allergy I developed after using a special medicine. It caused red itchy spots on my skin. The spots are gone now, but the itch is still there.

Blissful moments are those moments when you can forget all your worries and just enjoy the moment. Sitting on a rock on the beach watching the tide come in, watching a beautiful sunset, sitting in the garden in the summer sunshine, eyes closed just listening to the sounds of bees buzzing and birds singing. Sitting with a coffee and a good book at a street cafe - occasionally looking up and watching people pass by. Just a few I can think of:)

Jeannette StG said...

Jen,
Oh yes, II so agree with you!

Reader Wil,
So sorry for that allergy -must have been very uncomfortable!!
Wow, that is very special to receive such a big compliment from one of your children!

Rosie,
Alas, because of our worries we tend to forget to enjoy these moments ALL the time:)

I have many blissful moments also like many of those comments above.
Here are some of my blissful moments-getting encouragement from a friend (a thank you to you)- going out with my camera and finding the perfect photo op (it happens quite frequently, I call it serendipity)- the feel and smell of my favorite books- being alone in the quiet to think my own thoughts- I could go on for quite a while; Isn't life wonderful?

Getting lost in a book on a warm summer's day, is bliss to me.

Or maybe it just seems like bliss because I'm in the midst of a cold winter's day here in Toronto.

Ooooh, how lovely. Your artwork is beautiful, too. You are a very talented lady!

What is blissful to me? Doing my artwork, organizing my art supplies, a cup of coffee with my best friend, a hug from my husband and children, poetry, the sound of rain on the roof, the way snow falls and covers the scars of the earth...sprintime when the flowers bloom. Summertime when the children play and the air is hot with life. Autumn with colors and its nostolgic feel...winter, when the bare limbs of trees paint patterns against the blue blue skies...

(sigh)

Eating a nice hot bowl of porridge in my pajamas before I go to bed and having my stomach full and satisfied and then crawling underneath my duvet with a good book.

Jeannette StG said...

Johnine,
Several blissful moments are mine too! I still can see the children's bible in front of me with the paintings of Dore, when I was 10 years old (5 decades ago!)
Life is wonderful when bliss continues to be in the forefront of our mind:)

Barry,
After yesterday night's blackout, I can so empathize with you: dark and cold (and it's not very cold here!)

Beth,
I see, you love the seasons. You are such an artist yourself (!) -that I didn't picture you as being maried with kids (I don't know why I think artists need to be single LOL)

Irene,
Good for you -I can see you sitting in the bed, readind, reading, reading...one of the things that would not be blissful to me is porridge (I was forced to eat it as a child. 2-3 hours later I would still be sitting there, because I'm verry stubborn!)

Now you make me wonder what the Bliss cafe looks like inside ... That photo of a tree and clear blue sky is a bliss on its own. Beautiful, Jeannette!

Oh my ... bliss is living in the moment, savoring whatever comes as the gift it's meant to be. Of course it helps to be 'happily retired' with minimal responsibilities. LOL

Thanks so much for your visit to my musings at Sacred Ruminations. I've added your blog to my reader and spent a bit of time catching up on your recent posts (thanks so much for making them available entirely in your feeds). I recognized the beach at Corona Del Mar ... and I notice you live in Costa Mesa ... not far from me.

I love the way you blend your art, photography, and thoughts on your blog and plan to visit whenever I can. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Looks like we're in for significant rain so methinks I'll wait a while longer to plant my flat of pansies.
Hugs and blessings,

For me to be surrounded by coffee, chocolate, flowers, my children, and books is pure bliss.

Eki,
The cafe is in reality a flower shop (I deleted the title in Photoshop)! The birch with the stark blue sky is what prompted me to this post -thank you, Eki!

Storyteller,
I laughed when I saw your pics of South Coast Plaza. That's where I do my excercise walk, because my new living place is around the corner!
Hubby is retiring age, so we thought we downsize, but I think the condo where we moved into (Aug.) might be a mistake.

Since I'm home most of the day I sorely miss my yard and with roses, quiet street, talking to the neighbors, and my spacious living room. We'll see...have to stay here at least 5 years before we can look elsewhere for a house.

Glad you like my blog - a happy diversion, next to my art! Indeed you can't live too far:)Thanks for putting me on your blogroll -and i left you a comment on your Wordpress blog, since I'm on there too:)

Angie,
Sorry, somehow I overlooked replying to your comment. Maybe because it sounds so much what mine would be!
