FOR MY BLOGGIE VALENTINES

If I 'll get sentimental once a year it would be at Valentines Day. But it doesn't mean less artful though! To me Valentine is giving a flower, or something fragrant and something sweet like chocolate to one's friend(s). I so have enjoyed your photos, journeys, interests and caring, bloggie friends.     Happy Valentine's Day!
Maybe some of you remember I showed you my Celebrity Collection of flower paintings (I only had a few followers then). Rather than showing you the whole collection at once,
I'll find the photos of the flowers that I took in the beginning
of painting the flower, so you can see that I did not copy them,
but used the flower as a reference
and gave my own interpretation.
It all started with this rose above wilting on my coffee table.

A year before,  I bought a 24 x 24 canvas, but never knew what to do with it. When I gazed at this flower I thought, maybe this flower will fit in my square canvas.  I had only painted a small watercolor with small flowers up till then. I wanted to fill all of the 24 x 24 inches with the rose. Since the weather was in the 80ties at the time,  I spritzed it with water, so the flower would keep its shape.

My interpretation was to exaggerate some of its edges
and show a wilted flower that was beautiful. When the painting was finished
its color had almost faded to a soft white.  (The right top petal of this pic is the left top petal in the painting)
The background is kind of symbolic
of life and death.
Sometimes one's life becomes more significant at the end.
 I called it Latebloomer.

Never too late
to bloom
 to sing that song
 to love without restraint
to fulfill the dream
if only one day
would be left.

Your interpretation of the rose is lovely indeed!

You created something truly beautiful! Very reminiscent of Georgia O'Keefe's work.

I love your header! Did you find this leaves and rose petals collage by chance or did you create it?

Regarding your question about staying thin in Vienna, here's my answer (I put it on the blog, but then I doubted you'd go back and read it):

"How to live in Vienna and stay thin?" *giggles*

Wished I knew. I have nightmares about waking up one morning and find myself inexplicably transformed from a human into a Mozartkugel! ;-)

"When Merisi woke up one morning from unsettling dreams, she found himself changed in her bed into a monstrous Mozartkugel."

I shall have cabbage soup for lunch today!

Happy Valentine's day!

I love the painting (I also did a rose for someone once, somewhere in my archive collection), but I really like the poem. It speaks greatly to me!

Happy Valentines, Jeanette! Not only is your interpretation of the rose beautiful, it is a reminder for me to get out and buy some roses for my wife, if I hope to have a peaceful and loving Valentines Day.

So, excuse me, I gotta run!

Dimple,
thanks so much Dimple, it was a great experience to do (paint) it!

Marisi,
Haha, how appropriate to turn into a MOZARTkugel! Fortunately it is only a dream!

This header: this is how I found it - a puddle at the edge of the sidewalk and street with the flower petals and leaves it it.
Wishing you a great Valentines!
I started on a box with truffels for you:)

Thank you -Georgia O'Keefe is a great artist, and a gutsy one for her time!

Zuzanna,
Thank you...don't know if it's better, but it is different -One can't tweak a real flower, but canvas and paper one can let one's imagination go wild:) Hope you have a great day!

Joey,
Thanks you for the poem! Do you remember that at first it's difficult to keep track off every petal? But once you've done it few times, you kinda know where to
focus on first. Have a splendid day, Joey!

Kerri,
Thank you -that coming from such a good photographer means a lot to me!
Better to "bloom" late than a whole life being a bud and never fully bloom:)

Floss,
Europe has many great painters, but it never brought forth Georgia O'Keefe. If I wouldn't have lived here, I would never have taken the jump she so defiantly took in painting flowers from such unusual angles (in her time it was more than a leap!).

Barry,
I'm smiling -you don't tell me that you would have forgotten without my prompt, did you?
Hope you two have an enjoyable day!

Muse,
You are so good in finding the right word!! Lush is exactly the right word for this kind of pink (for the shape as well):) This was my first pink painting;)

Beautiful - I love how you are showing the original rose - and the stunning painting you made from it.

Beautiful painting and words. I like that it really is never too late in life to live and dream and do.

Lovely photos of the blossom and fabulous painting. Thank goodness it's never too late to bloom!

Clytie,
I just couldn't believe how this rose kept its shape in 80 degrees weather (without air conditioning!). Thank you Clytie, the painting is my own perception of the rose.

Jen,
thank you, Jen. Because I paint, it has opened my eyes to many new things I never considered before!

Betsy,
You caught my drift, Betsy. It's kind of a defiant statement, similarly to "big is beautiful", I'm saying with this "later age is beautiful and bold."

Shadow,
It depends on how I see the loss...do you know the book "Necessary Losses" from Judith Viorst? I recommend it! (ISBN 0-449-13206-4 - has been written a while ago, but one of those books with ageless wisdom)

Stine,
Yes hurrah, never too late to start something new!!

Beautiful painting and the poem gives it even more meaning. I like the way you add thoughts to your paintings and also the idea it's never to late.

Rosie,
Thank you - I had a great day with shopping (I kind I wanted to do)! Hope you had an enjoyable day as well! Thanks for emailing me:)

Midtowestlands,
Thank you,it may be a Dutch thing to add one's own thoughts (van Gogh did it -as you may remember, I am Dutch). Can imagine that you can relate to the idea that it's never too late:)
