SCRIBBLE AND DOODLE WINDOW-House in Valley

Do you remember my post Teaching Alley?I believe it was March this year. At the time I was writing it, I didn't know that Alley's mom has had a remarkable increase in health (had walked away from 2 car crashes where she should have died). She is able to drive her car now after 8 years (had vertigo)!! And not too long ago I got an email, that she works one day a week at a place for organic food. Don't you love, when events turn for the better?

My story about the sketch in the Scribble Doodle Window is a short one this time. We were strict with our eating rules for our kids throughout the year. Candy and soda were for special occasions. Except on vacation. In the summer vacations we bought them every day an ice-cream cone after we would come back from hiking. We continued that tradition for our own vacations now!

After the ice cream we would often go to one of the stores. One of them was a book store where they had the photo books of Anselm Adams. Today, while the rest of the family was engrossed in a book, I slipped out, crossed the street, and sat on one of the benches.

Then I saw this building.
The roof was almost invisible, because of the sun shining down on it. The big trees surrounding the building, providing shade. All the buildings in the valley of the National Park were built in cabin style, to fit the surroundings. Before I knew it, I sketched this little treasure, which later I made into an India ink drawing. That is how my family found me.

Gary,
Yes, luscious trees. In retrospect, they would have come out even better in a watercolor or oil. But then... I know you like these India ink sketches!

This charming little stone cottage reminds me very much of my husband's uncle's house. He built it himself out of stones he hauled up from the creek than ran nearby and he lived there until he was 96! It really looked very like this beautiful drawing of yours!

What a lovel sketch to take home with you after your walk - I can see a picture of you sitting and sketching and your family, having enjoyed browsing in the bookshop, coming to find you:)

It's a gorgeous ink drawing, Jeannette.

Now see, that's something I can't do at all. You have a gift, my dear. Thank you for sharing it. Very masterful!

Pamela,
Wow, your husband's uncle must have been very fit - those rocks are heavy!! No wonder, he lived that long. A neat idea to build your house from river rocks! Thanks for sharing:)

Irene,
Thank you Irene, but you have other talents! Also, artistic! My sketch remind me on your pen doodles. What do ya think - should I hang these in the new bath room... I have to look if there's wall space:)

Carol,
Yes, I wouldn't mind having a cottage like that either! It's interesting, everywhere it seems to be warmer than normal, and here it is mild weather (up till now!)

Jane,
Thank you Jane! As a teen trees and people were my 2 favorite things to draw, so I've had a lot of practice LOL
I read that your FBI article was selected for author blogs - not surprising, you're a good story teller!

Jeannette,
Wonderful sketch and story.

My blog, Crochet Life, is not just about crochet, but about my life, which I find is like a pattern in the making.

I am always crocheting something. Now, I am making a little hobo bag with some leftover bright cotton yard, and some washcloths. I have a wrap, in creme bamboo thread in mind though, I just have to get the crochet thread.

I have the itch to give knitting a try, we'll see. Your scarf sounds like a fun pattern, I really like wave designs.

NCMountainwoman,
Thank you - the cabin in the summer I see almost as a second home - hubby and I both LOVE the mountains - I, to paint them, and he to hike. Maybe because we both grew up in Holland, FLAT land my dear, they call hills "mountains" there LOL (it's true)

Jen,
Glad you like my sketch - you're not doing badly yourself, dear lady:)
You are right - our life is a pattern in the making!

I started knitting more because somehow sweaters fit better on my body - and often they have more interesting patterns for knitting. But lace patterns I find much easier with crochet.
Hope you'll show your wrap with bamboo thread!
