Nostalgia Dolls

When it pertains to my children, I am rather nostalgic.

I kept the dolls of my daughter's collection.
Now the grand daughters play with them.
The lace tablecloth was crocheted by my mother.

I kept the little cowboy boots from my son when he was a baby, to give to his son. He actually wore them.
And the super nostalgic pic we had taken in Reno in early American clothes.I  didn't take out the reflection of the lamp lights, because it adds to the vintage look.

I had to leave this bedroom in our old house, but we took this Dutch oak bed with us. The beds are lower because in Europe they have a mattress with inner springs (so you only have one mattress, not two like in the USA). But these beds hold up for generations.
The rest of my house is rather modern looking!

I love that you've saved all these wonderful things for your children to enjoy with their own children!

Beautiful dolls. I really like the antique photo of your family. Those are so fun. Had one taken many years ago as a young woman with my dog. Glad you still have space to display and enjoy the bits of the past.

These things do have sentimental values ... YOu keep and take care of them well, Jeannette. I wish I'd done the same with things from my childhood.

You probably have plenty of souvenirs too, Wil:) Because you traveled so much!

Fishing Guy,
One of my particulars: it has to look good!

Jeannette StG said...

Jane,
Maybe because my kids didn't derive any joy from their grandparents.

Rainfield,
It's because so little of the previous generations of my family.

Rudee,
Thanks Rudee. I thought to save them for my son's son (still to come:) )

Clytie,
So true, good memories help in dark days!

Shaista,
Still snowing, huh? Does that mean it becomes a severe winter?
The Dutch like minimal lines:)

From my own childhood, only two stand out: a very big china one, where you really couldn't play with, and a 8-10 inch doll, which I played with all the time.

Angie,
I had that idea about you! It makes us thankful to remember the good:)

Gaelyn,
When things are important, you'll find a place! Like you for the little Christmas decorations in your itty-bitty living space:)

Eki,
I know what you mean, Eki, I have nothing from my first 5 years in Indonesia.

Phivos,
I know we live today, but it's good to remember good things from the past!
I was amazed at all the details of your long post -you are very thorough!! Probably good for your writing:)

What a great way to keep memories alive! I'm finding that kids grow up way too fast!!

Jeannette StG said...

Knitwit,
The "kids" appreciate what you keep when their kids can play with it LOL

My mother loved dolls. I used to buy old antique dolls at flea markets, yard sales, etc. for her. She promised they would be mine after she died. I went home and they have all disappeared. No one seems to know who took them.

Jeannette StG said...

Neetzy,
Oh noooo! How disappointing! I feel for you, especially because they were antigue dolls!

Really very nice treasures, I love to see those nostalgic things.
Maybe I should show some of mine too.

Great nostalgic photo and the cowboy boots are adorable! Lovely Dutch oak bed. Our 30-year old bed sits low compared to the new ones but I like it. :)

I love vintage things. I remember having a bed almost exactly like that one, with the single mattress. It was very comfortable. Nowadays we need a step ladder to get into bed. :-)

Lovely photos.

Love the dolls. Do I see some Madame Alexanders there? The vintage clothing - prachtig!

Jeannette StG said...

Dick,
Thank you!
By all means -I think people like to see it!

Jeannette StG said...

Dick
Thank you, yes, go ahead show your nostalgia too!

Jeannette StG said...

Diane,
Thank you! I wonder why they decided to make beds higher?

Jeannette StG said...

Jo,
Amazing, this one is also very comfortable! You have a sense of humor, Jo!

Dutchbaby,
Thank you, friend! Sorry, I forgot what kind of dolls they were (I am scatterbrained that way- don't pay attention to brands). The pic with the vintage clothes was one of those crazy things you do on an impulse during a vacation!
