WINTER FUN

For ABC -  Anton (Pieck)
For Alphabe - Ice

This I titled Winter Fun, painted by Anton Pieck, a Dutch painter born in the early 1900.
One could compare him to the Dutch Norman Rockwell.
When I was a little girl I actually had the old-fashioned ice skates,
like you see in this painting,  where the wood ends with a curl by the toe.
Never was good on the ICE, so I never bought the "new" ones.
Also because I hated the cold! And still do.

The one in the yellow tux with the high hat,
looks dramatic, don't you think?
The Dutch flag are horizontal  red-white-blue stripes
so I'm claiming that one for Ruby Tuesday
The blues and greens are more obvious.

Meanwhile in California it's looking like this, probably more snow
on the mountains
as well as on the meadows,
because this was taken in summer time

That is a neat piece of artwork...and yes, close to Norman Rockwell, I agree.

Oh tell me about cold...I don't like it either.

Hi, such a wonderful picture. It gives me a lot of fun. I love the guy skating good with a broom.

I love these kinds of paintings. The more characters and action - and color - the better. It provides a great snapshot to what life was like when this was painted, doesn't it?

I could look at that painting for hours -- so many things and colors to feast ones eyes on. But I'd rather look at the picture than be there because, like you, I hate the cold too.

Anni,
It's actually great to hear of more people who don't like the col:)

Beagle Annie,
Now you say it,I've seen it in more (other artists) paintings! Wonder if he's the one getting the snow off the ice?

Stephanie,
It certainly gives a good pic of life back then, and their clothes, and customs (on the left is a stand with something to drink and eat)...

Liz,
Thank you and also for visiting here!

WifetoLineman,
Sledding off a hill was always great fun with the kids when little!

Gattina,
Thank you, I'm sure they also skate on the canals in Belgium too.

Thank you for introducing me to Anton Pieck. I love looking at all the activity in this piece! Do you still have your old skates> I bet they would be collectible now.

Beautiful photo and painting. I especially love mountains near the water.

I haven't ice skated for years, but I'm sure I could still do it!

BOY IN BRIGHT RED SHORTS

Boy in bright red shorts,
With a shirt of blue,
Strolling on the Malecón —
I wish I were you;

Carefree and content,
Nothing much to do,
Chillin’ in your bright red shorts
And your shirt of blue.

I wasn't familiar with the work of Anton Pieck, but enjoyed your post. He does remind me of Norman Rockwell!

P.S. Having Dutch roots from my Mom, your blog title caught my eye.

Love the painting and how the colors in the people's clothing and foreground pops against the muted background. Thanks for stopping by too!

Lovely view of the mountains. Your back yard?

Helen Campbell,
Only hope that you like the cold:)
thanks for your visit here!

Mildred,
Thanks so much! I know how busy teachers are, an complimenting you for your perseverance to also do a blog!!

Sallie,
Thanks, Friend! Am glad I'm not the old one who's rather not cold!

Rebecca,
Unfortunately, I put them away before I knew anything about "collectible!" Don't even have a pic of myself skating (maybe you know that Europeans are not as photo-happy as here:) )

Joyful,
That is taken in the Northern part of Yosemite Nat.Park in CA. - There's a stark beauty that never fades!

Teacher,
Since I never was good at it, I probably would end up with a couple of bruises:)

Esther,
Oh, glad you looked at my post. Anyone from Dutch descent should have heard from Anton Pieck:)

Leah H., 2 times
Thanks so much for visiting!

Kulasa,
You have a beautiful name...what does it mean? Thanks for visiting here!

Kim,
Thank you Friend!

Roger,
I really enjoyed it! Thanks for hosting:)

Dianne,
Isn't that interesting? (like Rockwell her also has the ability to differentiate the personalities!)

EG Wow,
Their illustrative abilities and view on things are comparable, although Rockwell is from a later time in history (and it shows!)

Anitamombanita,
My backyard? I wish!!!

Judie,
The mountains and the seasons even mean more to me, now I can't see them anymore from my present kitchen window!

Beckyp,
Thanks for putting your # on there -that takes the guessing work out of it. Have a great rest of the week!

The California scene is lovely--I'd like a cabin right on the spot where the photo was taken. Your header is gorgeous too. Mickie :)

what a beautiful photograph of the mountains. I like folk art and your "Winter Fun" reminds me of that! When I was young, my sister and I would go ice skating outside. And at the skating rink inside. That brings back lots of memories. Thank you! {:-D

Tioga Pass is closed for the upcoming storm forecast.

That's almost the same scene we have seen in the Eastern Sierras in May. Still a lovely snow capped view!

Sivinden said...

Great picture of the impressive mountains and peaceful foreground.

Delightful painting, so much in the style of the mini action figures in a Breughel! A scene that demands lingering attention to absorb the range of detail!

What a neat, neat picture. I thought immediately of Grandma Moses when I saw it. Such a neat painter. I'm going to google his works.

Birgit,
When I read your name, I imagined a blog and blue eyed woman, but oh was I wrong when I saw your profile pic:) Hope you'll have a great skating time!

Eileen,
Thank you Friend, I'll visit you too!

Say Cheese,
You're welcome! Glad you like A. Pieck's work.

Mickie,
Oh, I would wish for the same!

Storybeader,
Am happy I reminded you on something pleasant!

Ebie,
Oh yeah, I wouldn't want to be there now -it may even be closed for the winter!

Sivinden,
There is a great deal of variety in America's landscapes:)

Gemma,
Yes, a lot of detail in this one:)

Jenny,
Now I have to look up Grandma Moses' paintings, to see how they're comparable:)

It doesn't really matter what style of ice skates I wear, I'm a novice!

Hi there - interesting post - the picture reminds me of the images of ice fairs on the Thames from the "Little Ice Age".

The Big Sky picture was take with at the 18 mm end of an 18 -70 mm zoom lens (so set at about 35mm in "old language") - but I took a bit of time finding a location where I was looking up hill - this allowed me to reduce the "ground" in the foreground to almost nothing. Then I laid on the ground to get the angle I wanted. At this point people were pointing and laughing at me!!!

H,
You make me smile! Hope you'll try it sometime -who knows you're gifted at it!!

Steward,
Thanks for the explanation -I'll pass it on to hubby -he's the more serious phographer -I only dabble in it - and I know the serious ones go to ANY length to get their shot!

Chubskulit,
Thanks so much!

Upinthecosmos,
Glad you like it! In the mountains (9000ft) it often snows around January: -ever been to Big Bear?) Thanks for your visit here:)
