For Alphabe - Ice
For Sky Watch Friday
This I titled Winter Fun, painted by Anton Pieck, a Dutch painter born in the early 1900.
One could compare him to the Dutch Norman Rockwell.

When I was a little girl I actually had the old-fashioned ice skates,
like you see in this painting, where the wood ends with a curl by the toe.
Never was good on the ICE, so I never bought the "new" ones.
Also because I hated the cold! And still do.
The one in the yellow tux with the high hat,
looks dramatic, don't you think?
The Dutch flag are horizontal red-white-blue stripes,
so I'm claiming that one for Ruby Tuesday

I love these kinds of paintings. The more characters and action - and color - the better. It provides a great snapshot to what life was like when this was painted, doesn't it?

I could look at that painting for hours -- so many things and colors to feast ones eyes on. But I'd rather look at the picture than be there because, like you, I hate the cold too.

what a beautiful photograph of the mountains. I like folk art and your "Winter Fun" reminds me of that! When I was young, my sister and I would go ice skating outside. And at the skating rink inside. That brings back lots of memories. Thank you! {:-D

Hi there - interesting post - the picture reminds me of the images of ice fairs on the Thames from the "Little Ice Age".
The Big Sky picture was take with at the 18 mm end of an 18 -70 mm zoom lens (so set at about 35mm in "old language") - but I took a bit of time finding a location where I was looking up hill - this allowed me to reduce the "ground" in the foreground to almost nothing. Then I laid on the ground to get the angle I wanted. At this point people were pointing and laughing at me!!!
